WWE SummerSlam 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting event, but not all talented stars will get the opportunity to make the card. This becomes readily apparent considering the recent premium live event cards where there are usually often not more than five bouts.
For over three decades, The Biggest Party of the Summer has been treating WWE Universe to stellar moments. So, with the Stamford-based promotion firing on all cylinders this year, it's all but guaranteed that the 2024 edition of the PLE will be a night to remember.
There are several ongoing feuds that deserve to be settled at SummerSlam 2024. At the same time, there isn't a shortage of fan-favorite names who are battling with the looming likelihood of not competing on the show.
Even though it's true that not everyone will be able to make the show, Triple H should still make sure that certain gifted wrestlers are not left off the card. Here are five of them.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 Seth Rollins
The Visionary's SummerSlam catalog is nothing short of impressive. From beating John Cena to become a double champion, to triumphing over Brock Lesnar to regain the Universal Championship, Seth Rollins knows how to put on a heater at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
That said, there's a growing concern among fans that the five-time world champion might not be competing at WWE SummerSlam 2024. Following his unsuccessful attempt at recapturing the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank, Rollins confronted the man responsible for costing him the match, CM Punk.
However, The Shield alum seemed to be in no hurry to challenge The Best in the World. Moreover, with Drew McIntyre set to return on the upcoming RAW, it's likely that the highly anticipated grudge match between him and Punk would be made official for the PLE.
For the sake of WWE Universe, Triple H should find a way to get Rollins on the card. Whether it's inserting him into the potential Punk/Drew match, or building up a quick, new program, The Architect should fight on August 4.
#4 and #3 Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee
Even at 49 years old, Rey Mysterio's aura and the excitement he brings to a match remain unmatched. So, it goes without saying that every big WWE card is better off with a Rey Mysterio match on it.
As for Dragon Lee, the pace with which he has gotten the WWE Universe on his side is astounding. Even though he hasn't been getting plenty of TV time, fans remain hopeful that he is poised to become a future cornerstone of the Lucha revolution in WWE.
Furthermore, with Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee in the same faction, it makes all the sense in the world to book them as an electrifying tag team that sits at the top of the division. So, the LWO challenging for the World Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam would be a neat move and a much-needed big-stage showcase for Lee.
However, with The Biggest Party of the Summer being in The Miz's hometown this year, all signs are pointing to The Awesome Truth challenging for the tag titles instead. If that is indeed the plan, The Cerebral Assassin should reconsider it and devise a strategy to get the WWE Hall of Famer and his gifted protege on the card in the title match.
#2 Otis
There's no denying that WWE is a wrestling promotion. Yet, many have proved that there's a way other than winning wrestling matches for superstars to get insanely over with the fans i.e. flawless character work.
Otis is a student of the game in that regard. Even though his rom-com storyline with Mandy Rose in 2020 didn't push him into superstardom, he got a second chance at that four years later, thanks to The Alpha Academy drama.
With Gable's attitude becoming harsher by the week, fans started to get louder for Otis to put his on-screen mentor in his place. Surprisingly, right when the iron was getting hot enough to be struck, WWE shoved Gable into the Wyatt Sicks storyline, reducing Otis' TV time.
Fans invested in The Alpha Academy implosion were stoked for Otis and Gable to have their blow-off match at SummerSlam 2024. However, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, and that could be a bad sign for the former Mr. Money in the Bank's momentum.
#1 14-time WWE world champion Randy Orton
Despite being a decorated veteran who's still at the top of his game, Randy Orton's presence on the SummerSlam 2024 card is doubtful at best at this point in time.
On the latest edition of WWE SmackDown, Randy Orton was apparently written off TV for a while following a spine-chilling attack at the hands of The Bloodline. While the beatdown was an effective way to further heat up the Cody Rhodes/Bloodline rivalry, it's logical for fans to be upset that it had to be at The Viper's expense.
Due to a career-threatening injury, Orton had to sit out the last two SummerSlam events. So, to have him miss it for the third year in a row might not be a decision that WWE Universe would be glad about.
With John Cena recently announcing his retirement, it's hard not to wonder how many years The Apex Predator has left as an in-ring competitor. So, Triple H should refrain from having Orton sit out huge PLE cards, and that includes SummerSlam 2024.
