Roman Reigns had had one of the best rivalries of his career with Braun Strowman in the year 2017. Both the Superstars became the cornerstones of Monday Night RAW courtesy of their stellar feud. WWE rebuilt Strowman as a monster after his separation from The Wyatt Family. The Creative team booked him to have a mega winning streak on the Red brand by defeating the jobbers and lower mid-card Superstars.

His first big feud was against Roman Reigns. The muscular Superstars locked horns with each other first at the Fastlane pay-per-view. The Big Dog won the match and later shifted his focus to the Universal Championship. When he could not capture the title, he reignited his rivalry with Strowman.

This time, the matches were more intense as the Creative team added stipulations like and Ambulance Match and a Last Man Standing Match. The Monster Among Men defeated Roman Reigns in the Ambulance Match at Great Balls of Fire 2017 and before that, he had got the better of him in a singles match at Payback 2017.

Their feud seemed to be never-ending as they continued to battle each other heading into SummerSlam. Braun registered two more victories over his rival with the stipulations being Last Man Standing Match (RAW, 7th August 2017) and Steel Cage Match (RAW, 16th October 2017).
