The first winner, Edge is still the person to have held onto the briefcase for the longest time

When Edge won the very first Money in the Bank Ladder match at Wrestlemania 21 in 2005, nobody knew what to expect. Edge had won the briefcase against Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Shelton Benjamin, Kane, and Christian and held on to it for 280 days before finally cashing it in.

At New Year’s Revolution 2006, Vince McMahon came out to make the announcement that Edge was cashing in his Money in the Bank contract and The Rated R Superstar beat an exhausted John Cena to win his first WWE Championship.

This set the stage for every cash in to come after it and truly cemented the Money in the Bank as a yearly treat for the WWE Universe.
