The only person on this list to have been unsuccessful with his cash-in attempt and only the second person to announce his cash-in before hand, John Cena held on to the Money in the Bank contract for a grand total of 8 days.

After winning the 2012 Money in the Bank Ladder match against The Miz, Big Show, Chris Jericho and Kane, The Face That Runs the Place announced his intention to face CM Punk in 8 days time on the 1000^th Episode of Raw.

The match was marred by interference from The Big Show and it led to Cena picking up the win via Disqualification meaning he did not get his hands on the WWE Championship.
