#2 WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart
Following his controversial WWE exit, Bret Hart had an underwhelming run with WCW. Even though he was one of the hottest commodities in professional wrestling following the Montreal Screwjob, Eric Bischoff couldn't utilize Hart.
The ongoing storylines took precedence over the former WWE Champion, who found himself in the doldrums. After winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship for the first time, Hart defended the title against Goldberg at Starrcade in 1999.
During the bout, Hart took a stiff kick to the head that left him with a severe concussion. While he wrestled a few more times, The 'Excellence of Execution' was left with post-concussion syndrome due to the injuries and was forced to retire.
#1 WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin
Stone Cold Steve Austin won the Intercontinental Championship from Owen Hart at SummerSlam in 1997, but his victory came at a price. Hart miscued a Tombstone Piledriver and spiked Austin's head on the canvas, seriously damaging his neck.
While the 'Texas Rattlesnake' reached unprecedented levels of popularity in the following years, he suffered from neck problems throughout his career. As the injuries piled up, Austin quietly retired from professional wrestling after facing The Rock at WrestleMania 19.
Over the years, there has been speculation about Austin returning to the ring for one last match. However, he has resisted the urge and chosen to stay retired.
