5 WWE Superstars you forgot had won Money In The Bank

There are many forgettable Money In The Bank winners.
There are many forgettable Money In The Bank winners.

The 2018 Money In The Bank pay-per-view is now less than a month away and we will see two more superstars picking up that famous briefcase. Historically, the Money In The Bank contract was seen as something that changed many stars lives, and in some cases, even managed to kick-start the careers of some of the younger winners.

Of course, this isn't always the case; there are three superstars who have failed to win the title after cashing in their contracts, and there are countless others whose historic wins have been forgotten. Here our are top five forgotten Money in the Bank winners:

#5 - Rob Van Dam

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

It was just the second Money In The Bank ladder match in WWE history back at WrestleMania 22 when Rob Van Dam shocked the world by becoming Mr. Money In The Bank. His predecessor Edge had cashed in his contract on John Cena earlier that year and RVD eventually did the same thing, but he became the first man in history to give notice to his opponent prior to the cash in so that he could ensure that Cena would be at ECW One Night Stand.

RVD was victorious after Edge invaded the match wearing a motorcycle helmet and speared Cena before Paul Heyman made his way to the ring and counted the pinfall to not only crown a new WWE Champion but also the first ECW Champion.

#4 - Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger's career started so brightly, so much so that when he was able to climb the ladder and retrieve the briefcase back at WrestleMania 26, it was thought that this was the start of great things for the former amateur wrestler.

Swagger tried to cash in his contract on John Cena like many stars before him, but when he was unsuccessful, he cancelled his cash in and decided instead to go after the World Heavyweight Championship. Swagger cashed in on Chris Jericho just two nights after he won the case at WrestleMania and become World Champion for the first time.

This was the height of Swagger's career. Sadly, he didn't remain at the helm of the company for long before he became an afterthought and requested his release from the company back in 2017.

#3 - Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan has had quite the career, from being fired for attacking Justin Roberts in a less-than-PG way, to the build-up to WrestleMania 30 when he was one of the hottest stars in the company, and then being cleared for the in-ring competition two years after he was forced to retire.

Bryan has definitely had a career that many stars could only dream of and that includes being Mr. Money In The Bank. Bryan may have recently failed to qualify for this year's Money in the Bank ladder match, but many of the WWE Universe forget that he has already had his moment in the sun with that contract.

Back in 2011 at just the second annual Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Daniel Bryan won the Smackdown Money In The Bank ladder match. Despite announcing that he would cash in the contract at WrestleMania, Bryan decided to cash in on Mark Henry on the 25 November episode of Smackdown and actually won the World title. For the first time in history, the decision was then reversed after it was revealed that Henry wasn't cleared to compete, so Bryan instead later cashed in at TLC on The Big Show to become World Heavyweight Champion for the first time.

#2 - Mr. Kennedy

One of the most forgettable Money in the Bank ladder match winners has to be Mr. Kennedy, who managed to win the contract in the annual ladder match at WrestleMania 23 back in 2007. Kennedy was another star who was determined to cash in his contract at WrestleMania, but when he suffered a legitimate injury, he was then forced to give up his contract to Edge.

Kennedy is the only superstar in history to lose his contract without cashing in, but Edge went on to become World Champion the following night on Smackdown when he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on The Undertaker.

#1 - Kane

Kane is the most forgettable Money in the Bank winner in WWE history.

Back in 2010, it was announced that the Money in the Bank pay-per-view would become an annual event and that there would be a ladder match for each brand. Kane was the first man to win the Smackdown Money in the Bank ladder match, but his cash in is forgettable because he only held the contract for around an hour.

The Big Red Machine decided to cash in his contract on Rey Mysterio following the main event of the show where he was successful in becoming World Heavyweight Champion. Kane holds the record as the fastest man to cash in the contract, but he's also one of the most forgettable contract holders.
