Gunn won the 1999 King of the Ring tournament by defeating X-Pac in the finals. Many speculated that this major win would lead to a big push but Gunn never got a run with the top prize.

Gunn wrestled Brock Lesnar several times before the latter made his main roster debut. On the October 22, 2001, taping of WWE Jakked, Gunn scored a pin over Lesnar. The next night on Sunday Night Heat, Gunn defeated Lesnar and managed to pin him again.
These victories were followed by two more triumphs, these being in tag team encounters. Lesnar finally defeated Gunn around three years later, when the two met on an episode of WWE SmackDown. Brock would leave WWE following his WrestleMania 20 loss to Goldberg, while Gunn remained with the company for the next few months, before being released in November 2004.
