#3. WWE Hall of Famer Edge
Edge joined WWE in the mid-1990s and competed for nearly a decade and a half before retiring for the first time in 2011 due to injury. While many ruled out the possibility of Edge returning to WWE, The Rated R Superstar made his long-awaited comeback after nine years of absence.
Since his return, Edge has feuded with several top WWE Superstars. These include Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns. He also won the 2021 Royal Rumble match. Nonetheless, the WWE Hall of Famer recently revealed how age had affected his ability to perform regularly.
"You know, what I think I’ve learned is that the self-care and recuperation just takes longer. So before, when you can do it every night, that’s not the case anymore. Now, you know, after a match and I’m like, ‘Okay, I feel great. Maybe I could do one more the next day’ but that’s pretty rare. It’s usually a good two-to-three weeks until I’m like, ‘Okay, all right. I think everything’s knocked out of my system.’ The cryotherapy I did, the sauna. I did cold plunges, I stretched, I did yoga, I did massage, all of those things that I never did before. Now they’re a necessity," he said on Busted Open Radio.
Earlier this year, Edge disclosed when he would decide to call it quits during a WWE teleconference. The 48-year-old stated that he would retire before young wrestlers are no longer excited to share the ring with him.
"I'll be gone before a young talent looks at the sheet and goes, 'This is going to be difficult'. I don't want to be that guy. I want to be the guy that a young talent looks and goes, 'Oh, man... I get to get in there with him and feel what this is like. I don't want to overstay my welcome and I want this run to help. I don't want it to hinder. I don't want to take away from the business, the industry, from a talent... I want to add,'" he explained.
Edge has been absent from in-ring competition for nearly a month. His last match came at Crown Jewel when he defeated Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell.
