6 matches that are very likely to happen at WrestleMania

The Raw Women's Championship is expected to be one of the main events at WrestleMania.

It is no secret that WrestleMania is WWE’s most important pay-per-view considering the history that surrounds it, not to mention it being the first ever pay-per-view for the WWE back in 1985. For the last 12 consecutive years, WrestleMania has also yet to have an attendance below 70,000 fans, usually being held at stadiums with this year being no different being held at MetLife Stadium.

WrestleMania has also usually been known for holding ‘dream matches’ that the WWE Universe would never expect to see at any time of the year including The Rock against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X-8, The Rock against John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII and WrestleMania 29 and Sting against Triple H at WrestleMania 31.

The Road to WrestleMania this year has well and truly started, with a few dream matches already scheduled for WrestleMania 35, least of all the Men’s Royal Rumble winner Seth Rollins against Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. However, with less than six weeks to go, there are still many active members of the roster that have yet to be announced for a match for WrestleMania - but as the weeks go on, the WWE will be announcing more matches indicating what direction most wrestlers will be heading into after WrestleMania. However, although there’s been no definitive confirmation yet, there are a handful of matches that are very likely to happen at this year’s WrestleMania.

#6 AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton

AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton would be a classic.
AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton would be a classic.

When AJ Styles shocked the WWE Universe by appearing in the Royal Rumble back in 2016, it was clear he was going to be one of the franchise players for the company. During his short tenure so far, he has already become WWE Champion twice and has had some memorable feuds including John Cena, Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan.

However, one major wrestler he has not feuded with is Randy Orton. With the exception of one brief encounter for the right to face Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 33, it is surprising he has never crossed paths with Randy Orton considering they’ve both been exclusive to the SmackDown brand since the draft.

That was until a few weeks ago when they were both in the gauntlet match on the go-home show of SmackDown before the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view when Styles fought off an exhausted Kingston in the gauntlet match to come down to himself and Orton. What Styles didn’t anticipate was that the Viper would sneakily attack him from behind and deliver an RKO to win the gauntlet match and the right to enter the Elimination Chamber match last.

Orton then managed to get the upper hand on Styles again at Elimination Chamber, as he converted the Phenomenal Forearm to an RKO, eliminating Styles from the match and the title picture. With both wrestlers currently not in any feud at the moment, their few interactions in the last few weeks could be slowly building into an instant classic between the two global juggernauts that can only take place at The Showcase of the Immortals.

#5 Sasha Banks and Bayley vs. Nia Jax and Tamina (WWE Women's Tag Team Championship

The WWE Women's Tag Team Championships must be on the line at WrestleMania
The WWE Women's Tag Team Championships must be on the line at WrestleMania

At Elimination Chamber 2019, the women continued to make history by not only having the first ever women's tag-team Elimination Chamber match but by awarding the winners the first ever WWE Women's Tag Team Championships. After a hard-fought match, Sasha Banks and Bayley walked away with the gold.

If the WWE wants to make this Championship significant, then there definitely needs to be a match for the titles at WrestleMania. Whilst it is yet to be determined if there will only be one of these Championships or if they will create one for both brands, there are only a small handful of teams that can potentially face ‘The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection’. However, from the few female tag teams, the one team that sticks out is Nia Jax and Tamina.

Nia Jax is no stranger to making history of her own when she shocked the WWE Universe by becoming only the fourth woman to enter the Men’s Royal Rumble, and needing three former World Champions having to eliminate her with her. A combination of their physical strength and how polished they are as a tag team, not to mention Jax’s star power, the team of the ‘Samoan Slaughterhouse’ is the only team that can realistically challenge for the titles at WrestleMania.

#4 Drew McIntyre vs Braun Strowman

McIntyre and Strowman could finally face off at WrestleMania
McIntyre and Strowman could finally face off at WrestleMania

In the last 12 months, it is hard to argue that Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman have been among the most dominant wrestlers in the WWE. They are also no strangers to each other as they teamed up with each other alongside Dolph Ziggler to take on The Shield. Since their unsuccessful attempt at defeating The Shield, the relationship between the two has been rocky ever since they disbanded.

A series of unprovoked attacks by McIntyre is a perfect possibility for these two to happen at WrestleMania. The main focus at the moment is between Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman but having already had matches at TLC and Elimination Chamber, they are unlikely to face each other again at WrestleMania. This leaves Strowman to either face McIntyre or Lashley but considering the history they already have with each other, not to mention the bragging rights for the winner, WrestleMania would be the perfect setting for a showdown between The Scottish Psychopath and The Monster Among Men.

#3 The Miz vs. Shane McMahon

The 'best tag team in the world' may be on opposite ends at WrestleMania
The 'best tag team in the world' may be on opposite ends at WrestleMania

When The Miz competed in the WWE World Cup at Crown Jewel, where the winner would be declared the ‘best in the world’, it led to a very unlikely partnership between himself and Shane McMahon. Getting to the final against Dolph Ziggler before being ‘injured’, Shane McMahon stepped in as a last minute replacement to represent the SmackDown brand in the final.

After McMahon’s shocking win, The Miz then believed the two should become a tag-team considering the WWE World Cup was won by a combination of the two, leading them to eventually win the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships. However, in the span of just three weeks, the ‘best tag team in the world’ lost their titles to The Usos.

If you take into consideration that The Miz has recently admitted to McMahon that he’s been using him, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch if The Miz eventually betrays McMahon if they come up short against The USOs again at Fastlane, leading to a face-off between the two at the Show of Shows.

#2 Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston (WWE Championship match)

Kofi Kingston's crowning moment could come at WrestleMania
Kofi Kingston's crowning moment could come at WrestleMania

Mustafa Ali’s legitimate injury is largely responsible for Kofi Kingston’s huge push in recent weeks. Following The New Day unilaterally choosing Kingston to replace Ali’s spot in the Elimination Chamber match, he then competed in a Gauntlet match and replicated a similar performance to Seth Rollins a year prior, lasting over an hour and pinning WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy and Samoa Joe before finally succumbing to AJ Styles.

This performance proved not to be a fluke as he then went on to Elimination Chamber and got down to the final two before narrowly losing to Bryan. Whilst he has got a chance to finally win the WWE Championship at Fastlane after 11 years in the company, it is very unlikely his potential crowning moment in the company will come at a pay-per-view when WrestleMania is just around the corner.

If one thing was clear from the WWE Universe at Elimination Chamber, it is that Kofi Kingston deserves to be WWE Champion. He is a multi-time Intercontinental, United States and Tag Team Champion but has yet to win the big one. If the feud was to continue between Bryan and Kingston after Fastlane, then Kingston will most likely lose in a controversial manner before having one last shot at WrestleMania for the WWE Championship, where he’ll most likely have the most memorable night of his career and a WrestleMania moment the WWE Universe will remember for a long time.

#1 Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch (WWE Raw Women’s Championship match)

It may only be a one on one match at the moment but this will likely change into a Triple Threat match.
It may only be a one on one match at the moment but this will likely change into a Triple Threat match.

When Vince McMahon suspended Becky Lynch on the 11th February episode of Raw and replaced her with Charlotte Flair to face Ronda Rousey, it threw the WWE Raw Women’s Championship match in a completely different direction. However, come WrestleMania, it is safe to assume that this match will change into a Triple Threat match for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship match.

The whole feud started when the women from SmackDown, headed by Becky Lynch, invaded Raw where Lynch attacked Rousey, before getting legitimately injured by Nia Jax. Lynch then asked Charlotte to replace her against Rousey at Survivor Series, where even though she lost by disqualification, left a memorable impression when she attacked Rousey with a kendo stick and a steel chair after the match was over.

Rousey managed to get her revenge when she cost both wrestlers the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at TLC, pushing them both off a ladder and enabling Asuka to claim victory. Since then, Lynch’s appearances have been continually the focal point for this match, with her appearances constantly being positively received by the WWE Universe. It would be a catastrophic mistake if Lynch is now missed out from this match at WrestleMania, and the WWE are smart enough to know that she won’t be.
