Over the years, WWE has presented some interesting love angles on both WWE RAW and SmackDown. Many of these storylines have been used as comic relief. But some of them were intended to help new Superstars get over when they first arrived on the main roster.
Some on-screen couples paired two Superstars who were roughly the same age. But plenty of current and former WWE star were put into romantic storylines with stars who were much older than them.
From legendary wrestlers to the WWE Chairman himself, fans have seen some of the biggest names in the business get involved in controversial love stories on WWE programming.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The following list looks at just six romantic storylines that had the largest age gaps between superstars.
#6. WWE Legend Kane and AJ Lee - 20 years
AJ Lee is a former WWE Divas Champion. But before the former star was pushed as a serious competitor, she was featured in a few romantic storylines. Lee was aligned with the likes of Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, and John Cena throughout the first few years of her career.
When Lee was part of a three-way storyline with Kane, Punk and Bryan in 2012, she was just 25 years old. At the time, Kane had already been with WWE for nearly two decades. He was 45 years old, so the age gap between the two stars was an impressive 20 years.
#5. Former WWE star Dawn Marie and Al Wilson - 29 years
Dawn Marie first came to WWE in 2002 , and she debuted as Vince McMahon's legal assistant. At the time, WWE regularly hired and featured models and actresses rather than trained wrestlers.
Marie quickly entered a storyline with Torrie Wilson, and it became clear that the former ECW star was trying to make her jealous. Marie then started a relationship with Wilson's real-life father, Al Wilson and she even went on to marry him.
The romance angle took quite a turn when Al passed away (in storyline) on the couple's wedding night. This development led to several more matches between the two women on WWE programming.
Marie left WWE in 2005, and Al actually passed away in 2019 just days before his daughter, Torrie was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
#4. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Torrie Wilson - 30 years
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has been in several romantic storylines with female wrestlers over the years. The most famous example was his storyline affair with former WWE Women's Champion Trish Stratus. One of his most memorable romances came in 2001 when Torrie Wilson made her way to WWE. Shortly after her departure from WCW, she became The Chairman's latest affair.
This relationship didn't last very long, as Wilson later stepped into a romantic storyline with Tajiri. But at the time, Wilson was just 25 years old, and she was learning the ropes in the wrestling business. The future WWE Hall of Famer was seen as a valet in WCW, but she was finally learning to wrestle in WWE.
Vince McMahon had already made a name for himself as the Chairman of the company, and he had quite a reputation with female wrestlers at that time. At 55, McMahon was shockingly 30 years older than Wilson when the two stars were paired up in this storyline. Of course, McMahon was part of several romantic angles in the years that followed.
#3. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Candice Michelle - 33 years
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has been involved in some interesting romantic storylines throughout his career. In real life, he's married to Linda McMahon, but "The Boss" didn't let that stop him from portraying a playboy on WWE programming.
Candice Michelle came to WWE following the 2004 Raw Diva Search. She was part of a trio with Torrie Wilson and Victoria, and the three women were known as Vince's Devils.
During this time, Michelle was part of a romantic storyline with the WWE Chairman, where she was able to seduce him into giving her what she wanted.
Michelle was just 27 years old at the time while the WWE Chairman was 60 years old. So the age gap between the two stars, who were seen locking lips several times on WWE programing, was a shocking 33 years.
Michelle went on to be taken seriously as a wrestler. Later in her career, she became the first former Diva Search contestant to win the WWE Women's Championship. Pro Wrestling Illustrated even named her the Woman of the Year in 2007.
#2. Current WWE stars Lacey Evans and Ric Flair - 41 years
The only current couple that deserves a spot on this list is Lacey Evans and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. This duo recently became an item on WWE RAW. Evans and Flair were part of an angle two weeks ago in which "The Sassy Southern Bella" flirted with Flair. He then helped her team defeat Asuka and his daughter, Charlotte Flair.
This past week on WWE RAW, Flair was once again at ringside for Evans' match. This time, he made it abundantly clear that he was helping her defeat "The Queen." He tripped his daughter and held her down so Evans could win the match.
"The Sassy Southern Belle" then left with "The Nature Boy." This new couple was seen together backstage, and Evans said they were going to celebrate together at a hotel.
Evans then updated her Twitter account to inform the WWE Universe about her new romance. She also pointed out that she could become Charlotte's new stepmother if her relationship with Ric continues to go well.
#1. WWE Hall of Famers Mae Young and Mark Henry - 48 years
WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry hasn't always been seen as a serious character. Many fans know him as "The World's Strongest Man." But when the former world champion first came to WWE, he was handed a comedic gimmick, as he was called "Sexual Chocolate." During this time period, Henry had a storyline romance with WWE legend Mae Young.
At the time, Young was 77 years old while Henry was only 29. The storyline took quite a turn when Viscera splashed Young while she was carrying the couple's child. Young later famously gave birth to a hand.
Just 12 years later, the hand showed up on an episode of WWE RAW to prove that he had grown up. Sadly, Young passed away in 2014 when she was 90 years old.
On the other hand, Henry has since retired from his career as an in-ring competitor in WWE. He now works a producer for the company, and he recently appeared during WWE RAW Legends Night.
