WWE storylines gloss through a number of topics and some of the most captivating of these involve romance and betrayal. Today we take a look at 6 WWE romances that ended up getting totally derailed.

We start off with the sometimes forgotten storyline between Eddie Guerrero and Chyna and take a look at a number of doomed WWE romances over the years.

#6 Eddie Guerrero and Chyna

We start our list with the unlikely storyline romance between two late WWE legends, Eddie Guerrero and Chyna. Guerrero and Chyna’s “romance” didn’t start off the way Eddie wanted, with Chyna repeatedly rejecting him. This changed at WrestleMania 2000, where Eddie challenged Chyna’s on-screen partner Chris Jericho for the WWF European Championship.

Chyna turned on Jericho during the match to help Eddie win. Their new relationship started off well but began to go off the rails later in the year after Eddie increasingly relied on cheating to win his matches.

The relationship finally derailed thanks to the mysterious GTV after footage was aired during RAW of Eddie cheating on Chyna with two of The Godfather’s women. The footage showed Eddie in the shower with the ladies and commenting “two mamacitas are better than one”.

After seeing the footage, a distraught Chyna broke down at ringside and turned her back on Guerrero as Right To Censor did a number on him.

#5 Chris Jericho and Trish Stratus

This storyline started off with a bet between tag-team partners Chris Jericho and Christian. The year was 2003 and Jericho and Christian were dating Trish Stratus and Lita respectively in storyline. This is when the two legends made a juvenile bet to see who could go all the way with their woman first. When Trish found out she promptly dumped Jericho despite the fact that Jericho had fallen in love with her in the meantime.

This led to Jericho moping and getting on Christian’s nerves, leading to a match between the two at WrestleMania 20. Things got nasty at the end of the match as Trish turned her back on Jericho to help Christian win the match. To rub further salt into Jericho’s wounds, Christian and Trish kissed on the entrance ramp as a beaten-down Jericho looked on helplessly.

#4 Edge and Vickie Guerrero

After her husband Eddie Guerrero’s death, Vickie Guerrero was given an on-screen role in WWE by Vince McMahon. Vickie took the ball and ran with it, becoming one of the most hated authority figures of the Ruthless Aggression Era. Edge’s storyline romance with then-RAW GM Vickie Guerrero was a strange one on paper, but on television it worked.

Edge and Vickie’s romance led to their ‘wedding’ being set for an episode of RAW in 2008. Triple H interrupted the proceedings to show everyone a video of Edge backstage with their wedding planner (Alicia Fox). The video showed Edge kissing Alicia Fox.

Needless to say, Vickie Guerrero was fuming as Edge and Fox hung their heads in embarrassment. The segment ended with Edge trudging out of the arena with Vickie still in the ring screaming her head off.

Incidentally, this storyline saw Alicia Fox's debut in WWE as Edge and Vickie Guerrero's wedding planner.

#3 Stephanie McMahon and Test

Does anyone remember the romantic angle between Test and Stephanie McMahon? This one is still one of my favourite storylines from WWE's Attitude Era.

It started off with Corporation member Test and Stephanie McMahon dating. Over the next few weeks, we would occasionally get a vignette of Test and Stephanie out on a date. One other thing we found out was that Vince and Shane McMahon disapproved of Stephanie dating Test because it was “beneath family standards”.

This led to the classic SummerSlam match between Test and Shane McMahon in 1999, with Test overcoming the odds to beat Shane (who had help from the Mean Street Posse) in a Greenwich Street Fight. The match was dubbed a 'love her or leave her’ match and with Shane losing, he could no longer interfere in Test and Stephanie’s relationship.

The wedding was set for an episode of RAW and that’s where it all went off the rails. Triple H appeared during the ceremony and showed footage of himself and Stephanie in Vegas. He had basically married an intoxicated Stephanie during her trip to Vegas for her bachelorette party. Triple H went on to beat Test and we soon entered the days of the McMahon-Helmsley regime.

#2 Kane and Tori

One thing some younger WWE fans must remember about this storyline was that before this, Kane was just depicted as a monster on television. The relationship with Tori and his friendship with X-Pac were the first time Kane got to show character and personality. Kane had already had bad luck with friends before this, getting betrayed by The Corporation and Chyna before finally finding a friend in X-Pac.

Kane and Tori’s relationship started at about the same time X-Pac turned his back on his former friend. Kane was at war with DX at the time which led to Tori going to the authority – Triple H and Stephanie McMahon – to file a complaint.

This led to Stephanie booking herself in a match against Tori. At the last moment, X-Pac took Stephanie’s place in the match and swiftly beat Tori. Kane, meanwhile, was attacked backstage by the Mean Street Posse. Stephanie then announced that Kane would get a title shot against the Big Show but if he failed to win the title, Tori would have to spend Christmas with X-Pac.

Predictably, Kane lost thanks to outside interference, meaning that Tori and X-Pac spent Christmas together. Tori told Kane she still loved him after she got back from her vacation with X-Pac, but was clearly behaving somewhat strangely.

Kane was attacked by the McMahon-Helmsley faction on an episode of RAW a few weeks later. With Kane tied up in the ropes, X-Pac revealed that he and Tori were now together and that she had cheated on him during the Christmas trip.

#1 Vince McMahon and Trish Stratus

We end our list with the storyline romance between Trish Stratus and Vince McMahon which started sometime around 2001. Linda McMahon was the WWE CEO in storyline at this point and she backed WWE Commissioner Mick Foley instead of Vince. This led to Vince asking Linda for a ‘divorce’ following which Linda suffered a mental breakdown and was forced to be institutionalized.

With Linda a nervous wreck, Vince started an affair with Trish Stratus which led to Trish shortly feuding with Stephanie McMahon. Around this time, Vince also started to demean Trish on-screen.

All this led to Vince facing his son Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 17 with Mick Foley as guest referee. Linda was at ringside during the match in a wheelchair after being wheeled out by Trish Stratus. Trish turned on Vince and slapped him before she and Stephanie brawled their way out of the arena.

Vince brought Linda inside the ring at one point and she low-blowed him, helping Shane win the match after Coast To Coast.
