In the late-1990s, Sable became a household name for WWE fans thanks to her looks and in-ring skills. Just before she was signed to the company, her then-husband Marc Mero was contracted.
Mero was signed by WWE in 2006. However, according to Jim Ross, Vince McMahon saw a world of potential in Sable when she came in with Mero to meet the WWE Chairman. In an episode of “Grilling JR,” Jim Ross and Conrad Thompson talked about the couple's meeting with Vince.

“Vince called me 2 hours after the meeting and asked, did you see what I just saw? Basically he thought Rena Mero (Sable), who accompanied Marc to the meeting was going to be a star. Vince was right about that. She did have the look to be a star... If you have a talented person, and you know they have talent, it’s incumbent upon the creative arm of the entity to make that person relevant. Find something for them to do.” JR said

Sable turned out to be the bigger WWE Superstar even though she was signed after Mero. The one-time Women's Champion left the company in 2004 to raise a family with Brock Lesnar.
