David Schultz may not be a household name in the world of wrestling, but he will forever be remembered in WWE for one action that shook the media up in 1984. Even though the Superstar competed against Hulk Hogan, he was made famous due to an interview gone wrong.

Schultz’s actions were reported by every television channel in the United States, no matter how big or small.

John Stossel of ABC for “20/20” Magazine made the grave mistake of interviewing Schultz behind the scenes and stated that wrestling was fake. This did not fit well with a man who was working hard to build his wrestling career, and he slapped Stossel multiple times to make a point.

He was slapped so hard by the gigantic wrestler, that Stossel claimed to have lost hearing in his right ear and alleged to The New York Times that he would sue the WWE Superstar. Schultz was later fired by WWE for his actions.

Stossel eventually filed a lawsuit against the World Wrestling Federation, and settled out of court for $425,000 (Wrestling Babylon: Piledriving Tales of Drugs, Sex, Death, and Scandal; page 118).

The incident is aptly named "The Slap Heard Around The World" as it made an impact on television screens all around the globe and ensured that people at home knew how real and dangerous wrestling is.
