Daniel Bryan's severe injuries have been well-documented, with him having to step away from the ring due to the seriousness of his head and neck injuries.

The timing of his injuries was unfortunate as Bryan was on the top of the game, one of the most important Superstars on the WWE roster, as he battled against all odds to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 30. Just a few months following his historic win, he had to have neck surgery in 2014, which would later be the cause for his retirement in 2016.

He had surgery in May 2014 to his neck but still returned to the ring, albeit in non-wrestling segments with The Authority. His reign as WWE Champion was for just 64 days as he was stripped of the title by The Authority. He retired for the first time in 2016, after having relinquished the Intercontinental title a few months prior to his retirement.
