WWE Backlash is amongst the worst Pay Per Views WWE produced this year. The matches, booking everything did not click at the event as the only saving grace for the PPV was the IC title match which saved it from becoming a total disaster. Seth Rollins faced The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship at the event after Miz invoked his rematch clause. They both had an entertaining match with a lot of cool spots. Seth Rollins continued his good form this year and put on a show. Miz also held his own and bought his A game to the title match. This match culminated their rivalry as Miz was drafted to Smackdown.

#5 AJ Styles(C) vs Samoa Joe - WWE Summerslam
The two veterans put on a clinic at this year's WWE Summer extravaganza when they clashed for the WWE Championship. Their rivalry became very personal quickly after Samoa Joe started taking direct shots at AJ Styles family. Their match at Summerslam ended after AJ Styles disqualified himself by hitting Samoa Joe with a chair as he lost his cool due to Joe's antics. This was one of the best main roster matches of the year.
