#1 Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn was booked as an underdog in NXT where he usually failed to win the big matches. Sami’s story was really well-written. Every time he found his way to the top, he ended up being knocked down but he never quit. Eventually, Sami Zayn went on to win the NXT Championship after struggling for months, which made the moment so special.
On the main roster, Sami was booked similarly. He showed heart but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities given to him. Sami had a great feud with Braun near the end of 2016. It was believed that Sami would get his deserving opportunity on Smackdown Live. Sami got drafted to Smackdown Live but he never seemed to break out of the underdog character. Eventually Sami turned heel but still continued to lose meaningful matches.
Sami is currently sidelined with an injury but it looks like he might be getting a decent push on his returns next year. Don’t expect him to win any World Title however. Even a decent run as an Intercontinental Champion or a few feuds where he could come out on top would be sufficient.
