This storyline was a big deal

The invasion of both brands started back in 2001. The first move was made by WCW and the second by WWE. The real deal was that Vince McMahon actually bought WCW. But on screen, it was shown that Mr. McMahon's son Shane McMahon had bought WCW. The same was confirmed by Shane when he appeared on Nitro.

This led them to present the biggest storyline in their history. The invasion started when Lance Storm appeared on an episode of Raw involving himself in a match attacking WWE wrestler. After this several invasion occurred between both brands but the most memorable of them was when Triple H and the other took a tank to invade WCW. That felt a real big deal.

This storyline between the two brands led young fans to believe that they were actually invading each other and the opposite brand had control over it. But all of us knows how it was just a storyline there was never, ever an actual invasion.
