Back at the time when Attitude Era was at its peak, the Hardcore title was introduced. The rule for the title holder was that if you are the Hardcore champion then no matter where you are what you are doing if you are the champ then you have to defend it 24/7.
The major thing in the title scene was that one can beat the champion on by just having a referee by his side. This strange rule of the Hardcore championship led us fans (at the young age) to actually believe that it can be defended 24/7 due to which the champion was safe nowhere on earth.
