Sami Zayn is set to defend his Intercontinental Championship against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36.

Sami Zayn made his WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania 32 in a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship that also featured the Champion Kevin Owens, The Miz, Zack Ryder, Stardust, Sin Cara, and Dolph Ziggler. Ryder surprised everyone when he won the match by pushing The Miz off of the ladder. Sami Zayn would then compete in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33. He lasted until the very end until before eliminated by NXT star Killian Dain.

Sami Zayn turned heel and allied himself with Kevin Owens in the fall of 2017. The two would then team up against Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan, who was competing in his first match in three years at WrestleMania 34. If Zayn and Owens did not win, they would be forced to leave SmackDown Live. They were eventually defeated after Bryan made Zayn tap out to the Yes Lock.
