At least in the way that pro wrestling has been presented to us thus far, we've hardly ever seen heels and babyfaces get along on camera. WWE always ensures that heels are only friends with heels while babyfaces are only friends with babyfaces.
It was strange indeed to see MJF and Cody Rhodes portrayed as best friends, even though they're on two ends of the crowd-pleasing spectrum. MJF is a heel even when he is not on camera, making fun of the crowd that comes to see him perform.

This is a friendship that was never going to last, was it, dear reader? That is why even though the heel turn was surprising, it wasn't unexpected.
