What's the story?

All Elite Wrestling has done an impressive job of gobbling up top talents since announcing its arrival on the pro wrestling scene at the beginning of this year. Major names such as Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose in WWE) have all signed with the company, which will be debuting a weekly series on TNT this fall.

One name that always lingers in the free-agent fold is CM Punk, who famously stepped away from the world of pro wrestling when he left WWE and seems to have zero plans to make an in-ring return.

In a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Nick and Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks discussed the possibility of CM Punk returning to wrestling for AEW, and more.

In case you didn't know...

CM Punk infamously quit WWE after the Royal Rumble PPV in 2014, with reports at the time indicating that Punk informed officials he was "going home" following the Rumble event.

During a November 2014 podcast interview with Colt Cabana, CM Punk opened up about his decision to leave WWE, amidst what he claimed to be numerous frustrations and battles with ongoing injuries.

The explosive interview led to a battle in court, with CM Punk and Colt Cabana emerging victorious in a defamation case brought against them by WWE doctor Chris Amann. Following the court case, Punk has talked at length about how his time in WWE soured him on pro wrestling, and he has never competed in a wrestling ring since leaving the company.

The heart of the matter

In a new interview conducted by Chris Van Vliet, Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks addressed swirling rumors of CM Punk possibly coming out of retirement to sign with All Elite Wrestling.

We’ll be honest. Of course, we would love him to come to our company. At this time, I just don’t think he wants to.

Matt Jackson then added the following:

Professional wrestling is the most demanding thing in the world. You can’t just find yourself back in it one day and be like ‘okay, I guess I’m doing this again.’ You really have to want to do it and that’s up to him.

Thanks to Chris Van Vliet for providing transcripts. You can see the full interview here.

What's next?

Only time will tell if CM Punk decides to step back into a pro wrestling ring, and as for AEW, the company continues to steamroll towards its big AEW All Out event at the end of the summer, with Fight for the Fallen taking place this Saturday night.
