Just when you thought there was a proper Wednesday Night War, it turns out that WWE may not be happy with one of their former Superstars. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, WWE was unhappy when Billy Gunn (Kip Sopp) appeared as "Billy Gunn" on AEW Dynamite.
There is still no clarity on whether Kip Sopp owns the rights to Billy Gunn, or whether he is legally allowed to use the name on AEW Dynamite, or if this just an unfavorable WWE backstage reaction to one of their creations being used by another promotion.
While that is one issue WWE is clearly unhappy about, it was also reported by Fightful that WWE could be taking legal action against AEW using the WCW PPV name "Bash at the Beach" for AEW Dynamite.
"Some within WWE weren't happy with AEW promoting a Bash at the Beach, and there's talk that they may attempt to take action to stop it," said Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful. The biggest issue coming out of it is that "The Bash" is similar to "Bash at the Beach." Though, the former has more to do with The Great American Bash than the latter, but let's leave that to their respective legal teams to decide.
On the issue with Billy Gunn, most wrestling fans can speculate as to how he was able to use his WWE name at an AEW event. For those who are unaware, Billy Gunn is signed to AEW as a backstage producer/ coach, as he has detailed his job as being there to help various performers on the AEW Roster and help perfect their skill set.
In an interview with Hannibal TV, Billy Gunn said the following on his AEW Dynamite appearance,
"'It's not an all the time thing, It's just like a special moment kind of thing, it was in Indianapolis, it was great. I do lot a stuff behind the scenes but I still love being on TV every now and then like all performers do, but it was good, really good."
It'll be interesting if Billy Gunn can use that name again on AEW Dynamite, if and when he does appear again.
