At WWE Clash at the Castle in Scotland last month, AJ Styles lost his I Quit match against Cody Rhodes, thus losing the chance to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. Since this loss, The Phenomenal One has not made a single appearance on WWE programming.
This absence has made many question whether Styles will return to his former company TNA. After all, TNA will be hosting Slammiversary on July 20th. While seeing AJ Styles in his former promotion would be nostalgic, the chances of a move like this taking place are quite unlikely.
Even though WWE and TNA enjoy a great working relationship, it's important to note that Styles will be traveling to Japan for his match against Marufuji in Japan. He is also advertised for WWE's tour of Japan which will take place on July 25th and July 26th and 27th.

Hence, until and unless AJ Styles travels like an absolute workhorse or is not removed from WWE's tour to Japan, the chances of him returning at TNA Slammiversary are bleak. However, due to the relationship between WWE and TNA, it won't be surprising to see Styles return at some point in the future.
AJ Styles recently spoke about his retirement
While AJ Styles looks as fit as any wrestler on the roster, it's important to remember The Phenomenal One is nearing the end of his career. At 48, Styles has accomplished plenty in his professional wrestling career, and recently he spoke about retirement.
During an interview with WrestleManiac UK, AJ Styles was asked about retiring from in-ring competition. While Styles said the decision was a battle between his body and mind, he also acknowledged that he does not have a lot of time left as an in-ring competitor.
"You know, my brain's going, 'We don't have a lot of time', my body's going, 'We can go! No, we can't!' It's an argument between my body and my brain on how much longer we can go. I can tell you it won't go much longer, time's running out really quick," Styles said. [From 1:00 to 1:22]

Even if Styles retires today, he has done more than enough to secure a place in the Hall of Fame. It will be interesting to see if Styles involves himself in production or any backstage role once he retires from in-ring competition.
