Malakai Black's time at Tony Khan's AEW might be up. The former AEW World Trios Champion hasn't wrestled at the Jacksonville-based promotion since November 2024. Although he is still listed on AEW's website, and the news of his departure from the promotion isn't confirmed, it has been heavily rumored that he is headed to WWE.
The former NXT Champion wrestled at the Stamford-based promotion from 2017 to 2021 under the name Aleister Black. It was rumored that WWE has shown interest in acquiring the services of the former WWE Superstar again.
The rumors of his exit from AEW have gained momentum in the last 24 hours because of his reference to the Dynamite of January 8, 2025. Will Ospreay defeated Buddy Mathews of the House of Black, a stable formed by Malakai Black.

However, Ospreay later praised Mathews and asked him to come out of Black's shadow. This has raised rumors of Black's parting ways with AEW. Therefore, this listicle will discuss four ways Black can return to WWE.
#4 Returns to WWE as Aleister Black and enters the Royal Rumble 2025 match
One of the best ways to script a superstar's return is to bring him into the Rumble match. Over the years, superstars like Adam Copeland (FKA Edge), AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, and John Cena have returned amidst thunderous applause from the fans.
Malakai Black can, too, return to the promotion as Aleister Black in the Royal Rumble PLE, which is just 21 days away.
#3 Malakai Black may join Wyatt Sicks faction
It has been rumored for some time that The Wyatt Sicks faction may recruit a sixth member. That sixth member could be Malakai Black. The former NXT Champion exhibits traits that are well suited to the mystic group on RAW.
Moreover, he already leads the House of Black faction in AEW, so joining Uncle Howdy's faction and emerging as a potential leader could also be a possible direction for him in the company.
#2 Takes hiatus from wrestling
Malakai Black may also take some time off from wrestling if he parted ways with AEW. Superstars have taken sabbaticals from wrestling before and returned months later.
He took a similar six-month hiatus in WWE in October 2020 and returned in May 2021 on SmackDown. There, he attacked Big E and cost him the Intercontinental Champion. He was slated to feud with E later but was eventually released by the promotion in June 2021.
#1 Becomes the next Undertaker
Malakai Black may return to WWE and push as the next Undertaker. In fact, when he made his way to the main roster after NXT, he was expected to be the next big thing in WWE.
WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry spotted Black's unique skills, which showed that he could be the company's next Undertaker. While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Henry noted:
"It was Undertaker like, it was Gangrel from The Brood like. It had that element of Rey Mysterio bouncing from underneath the ring on the trampoline thing or the slingshot or whatever it was. Not only is he a special talent, he has a unique skill-set. This is a guy who can strike and hit you from anywhere. He is athletic, looks apart, looks like a very evil bad man. I always thought that that was his destiny, [to] join the dark side."
The last big superstar from AEW to achieve strides in WWE was Cody Rhodes. Who knows, Malakai Black may become the next big thing.
