For the next few years, Strowman steadily turned into a hot act, and went on to compete for the Universal title at No Mercy 2017. Brock Lesnar defeated Strowman with a single F5, and things never took off for him following this huge loss.

At WrestleMania 35, Strowman participated in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal and last eliminated celebrity participant Colin Jost to win the match. The big win didn't do much for Strowman going forward. At Crown Jewel 2019, he lost to Tyson Fury via a countout. Strowman won his very first title on the main roster recently, when he beat Shinsuke Nakamura to become Intercontinental Champion. He lost the belt to Sami Zayn in a 3-on-1 Handicap match at Elimination Chamber 2020, with Cesaro and Namamura also in the mix.
