WWE Backlash is almost here and it will take place this Sunday. One of the matches that are promoted on the card is the Six Pack Challenge for the new SmackDown Women’s Championship. It will be a monumental moment when the winner will become the inaugural champion and forever cement her place in history.
Among the favorites are Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella. Lynch is long overdue for WWE accolades and is the overall favorite to win this match. Bella has just returned from injury and her past experience with the Divas Championship sees her as a threat in this matchup. Anyone else that could win would be a shock and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. With a healthy mix of rookies and veterans, this Six Pack Challenge could very well be anyone’s game.
While the SmackDown Women’s Division may not have as many women versus Raw, things are starting to look good and can go up from here. Think of the times when the Women’s Division didn’t see many women occupying it. Maybe the Attitude Era comes to mind. There were still a couple feuds that grabbed fans’ attention and it worked. This could happen with the women of SmackDown.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
While there are six women who are competing in the Six Pack Challenge this coming Sunday, this is an analysis of all seven women who occupy the division. Once the Championship has been won, the six who didn’t win will be chasing the Championship and we will look at their place on the roster in terms of story and experience.
7: Eva Marie
Eva Marie is noticeably absent from the match at Backlash as she is currently serving a 30 day suspension due to violating the WWE Wellness Policy. When Eva Marie comes back, she will probably continue the storyline where she comes up with excuses as to why she can’t participate in a match.
Eva Marie’s heel status will make someone snap on her once she makes one too many excuses. While Eva Marie continues to work on her ring skill, her natural Diva persona is her biggest asset on SmackDown. Eva Marie has potential to be SmackDown’s top heel in the Women’s Division.
6: Natalya
The most seasoned Superstar in the Women’s Division, Natalya would be the sleeper winner should she capture the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Natalya has had a more prominent role since turning heel this summer. Her being heel brings out her aggressive side and a Championship win would fulfill that purpose.
Natalya held the Divas Championship once in 2010 and is well long overdue for another Championship reign. Her mini feud with Carmella is over although there still some bad blood between her and Becky. She will need someone to feud with once Backlash is done.
5: Carmella
Carmella’s mean streak and heel turn have been well done. Her aggressive side is coming across perfectly. Her feud with Bella is just getting started and should continue past Backlash. Perhaps she will find a way to keep Bella from winning the Championship this Sunday.
Her fury of being upstaged by the returning Bella at SummerSlam was the start of this feud, sparked by jealousy. Carmella has a unique move set but needs more seasoning as she continues her feud with Bella. This is a secondary feud and has enough substance that it doesn’t need the SmackDown Women’s Championship to further it, at least not now. Ultimately it’s a story of getting respect.
4: Alexa Bliss
Bliss is SmackDown’s brightest prospect, and would be a surprise winner should she capture the Championship. Her fierce look draws attention but the small spitfire can pack a punch. Bliss’ alliance with Natalya helps her immensely and fans may continue to see that down the road. Bliss’ star power is already rising due to her Muscle and Fitness Her’s cover. She might be one of the new kids on the block, but she is not to be underestimated in this match up. Along with Carmella, Bliss is eager to prove herself on the main roster and make a name for herself in the SmackDown Women’s Division.
3: Naomi
Naomi is another WWE Superstar who has yet to capture a Championship in the WWE. With her new gimmick as a colorful dancer, she certainly wows the crowd with her new entrance. Naomi is hands down the most athletic Superstar in the SmackDown Women’s Division.
Could this be her time to shine finally after so long? Winning the Championship would give Naomi a direction and a feud she desperately needs. Naomi has all the tools from skill to attitude to last in the SmackDown Women’s Division. Perhaps all she needs is gold around her waist to complete her glowing transition.
2: Nikki Bella
Bella is one of the favorites to win the Six Pack Challenge on Sunday. However, Carmella has had Bella’s number for two weeks now and could be a road block to Bella’s list of accolades. Their feud should go past Backlash and could very well be a focus on SmackDown in the coming weeks.
Bella is due to retaliate from Carmella’s attacks sooner rather than later. While a Championship victory would be fitting because of the Total Bellas premiere, she has to take care of business with Carmella first. Still, A Championship reign is more than likely in Bella’s future regardless.
1: Becky Lynch
Lynch is the overall favorite to win the Six Pack Challenge at Backlash. The Irish beauty has yet to hold a Championship in the WWE. She is the face of the SmackDown Women’s Division and it would be a perfect crowning moment for the Lass Kicker. Lynch would be a fighting champion, and fights the good fight no matter what.
Eva Marie has backed out of her matches primarily with Lynch, so WWE may continue that trend with Lynch upon Eva Marie’s return. As stated before, a rekindling feud with Natalya may not be out of the cards either, as they have hard their issues in the past.
