David Michael Bautista Jr., going by his name of Batista, has been one of the most dominant wrestlers throughout his career in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Known as “The Animal” he was a fan favorite who physically dominated his opponents inside the squared circle.
Batista, in his initial pro wrestling years, competed at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) which was a developmental territory for the WWE from 2000-02. He made his WWE main roster debut on SmackDown on May 9, 2002, as a heel and an enforcer for Reverend D-Von. In his debut tag team match, he and Reverend D-Von defeated Randy Orton and Faarooq (Ron Simmons). Throughout his WWE career, Batista was notable for being an occasional member of Evolution, a heel faction. However, he had also performed as the top babyface in his career, especially during his feud with Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship.
He has been WWE Champion (twice), World Heavyweight Champion (four times), World Tag Team Champion (thrice) and WWE Tag Team Champion. He also was the winner of the Royal Rumble in 2005 and 2014. He was notable for his signature move, the Batista Bomb, which is a devastating powerbomb to finish off his opponents. He officially hung up his pro wrestling boots in 2019.
Outside of pro wrestling, Batista has also made himself an established actor and is mostly known for being Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy movies. He has also starred in other films like Army of the Dead (2021), Dune (2021), Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) and Dune: Part Two (2024).
