In what turned out to be one of the best heel turns of all time, the Irish Lasskicker all of a sudden became the hottest thing in the WWE after SummerSlam 2018. The Creative team too trusted her caliber and handed her the SD Live Women's Championship at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Becky Lynch had a 2-month long reign with the title which saw her defending the championship against multiple opponents.
She lost her title at WWE TLC in the first ever Women's Tables, Ladders and Chairs match. Though it came as a disappointment for the fans, that Becky lost the belt, the way she lost it equally excited them for the future. RAW Women's Champion Ronda Rousey interfered in the match and cost Lynch and Flair the title which in a way protected them even in the defeat.
So without further ado, I will now analyze the title reign of Becky Lynch -
#1 Best - The first ever Last Woman Standing Match
Charlotte Flair to return and wrestle a CURRENT CHAMPION?
When was the last time that we saw a feud involving female superstars get more attention than their male counterparts? Surely it has been a long time but Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair stole the show on Tuesday nights with their feud. After a disqualification finish at WWE Super Show-Down, the General Manager of SmackDown Live Paige announced a first-ever last women's standing match for the title.
It was surprising that the WWE Creative did not allow this match to close the show as this match was way better than the RAW Women's Championship match. Nevertheless, the two ladies worked a brilliant match which saw the Irish Lasskicker stand tall over the Nature Girl to retain her SD Live Women's championship.
#1 Worst - The DQ finish in two title matches
Well, there was nothing really that bad about Becky Lynch but the one thing that I can pick out as worst is the DQ finishes that her matches had at WWE Super Show-Down and on the SD Live episode after that. Disqualification finishes in title matches are just a sign of lazy booking from the Creative team and this phase of the Becky vs Charlotte feud was certainly hard to watch.
Having Becky Lynch use her championship belt to save her title in front of nearly 70,000 spectators just devalued their experience and also gave no development to the story-line. Remember the Charlotte vs Sasha Banks feud on RAW, there were almost no DQ finishes in the 5 months long feud and in a way the title changes kept the fans invested in that feud.
#2 Best - Her feud with Ronda Rousey
When Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey were interviewed after WWE Evolution, very few expected the Irish Lasskicker to have the upper hand in the feud. But, the WWE Creative booked Lynch as the top character in this storyline who destroyed Ronda Rousey both on the mic as well as backstage on RAW.
Becky Lynch completely shattered Ronda Rousey during that invasion and established herself as the best female superstar of the company. Even Rousey had her moments in the feud but the fans were deprived of this dream match at Survivor Series as Charlotte Flair replaced the SD Live Women's Champion due to the unfortunate injury she suffered on the RAW before Survivor Series; which leads me to the next worst...
#2 Worst - Nia Jax's botch on RAW
Becky Lynch led the SmackDown invasion on Monday Night RAW and played a fantastic role in destroying every female superstar of the red brand. However, the only bad part of this invasion was the injury that she suffered due to a botch from Nia Jax.
Nia Jax accidentally damaged the nose area of the SD Live Women's Champion which led to her ouster from WWE Survivor Series. Becky was supposed to face Ronda in what was set to be one of the most iconic matches of WWE history.
However, Charlotte replaced her in that match and Lynch had to stay away from in-ring competition for almost a month. Though she made TV appearances, she did not get involved physically until the go home show of TLC. No one knows what would have happened at Survivor Series had Lynch not been injured.
#3 Best/Worst - The way Becky's reign ended
Becky Lynch defended her SD Live Women's Championship in a triple threat TLC match at WWE TLC involving Asuka and Charlotte Flair. Now, the way she lost the title was good since Ronda Rousey's interference meant that Becky will soon be feuding with her in 2019.
But given that she was having a tremendous run on SmackDown Live as champion and Asuka's mic skills are too bad to be a champion, I wonder what the future holds for the SD Live Women's championship.
One thing is for sure, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch will battle Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35 for the RAW Women's championship which may even main event the Show of Shows. The only loser here is the SD Live Women's title.
