The Royal Rumble PPV ended in a so called controversy and ‘The Authority’ has taken up the job of clearing it. A few days back on Raw, Daniel Bryan won a singles match against Seth Rollins and earned a match at the upcoming new PPV ‘Fastlane’. The match at ‘Fastlane’ is of great prominence because it involves Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan- the most acclaimed WWE superstars today. These two superstars have the potential to be the face of the company in the coming years.
The winner will face Brock Lesnar at Wrestle Mania 31. This fixture isn’t pre-planned. The Philadelphia crowd reaction after the Royal Rumble PPV was the root cause of this match. The possibilities that the WWE creative team is left with are- to project Reigns powerful by defeating Bryan or to take him from the equation. It seems that the creative team has an inclination towards the second plan. This is evident from Reigns’ defeat over Big Show last Monday night on Raw.
Bryan has ascended the WWE ladder the same way as Lesnar did. The unnoticed similarity between these two WWE superstars provides a basis to believe that the bearded man would face Brock Lesnar at WM 31. Let’s look at two important career making moments of these two superstars and the way they built their careers is quite similar.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
1st WWE Championship victory:
Brock Lesnar won his first WWE championship in 2002 at Summer Slam PPV. He won the title from ‘The Rock’, one of the greatest WWE superstar of all time. He won the match in a convincing fashion and became successful in his first attempt to win the title. Rock has beaten big opponents like Stone cold, Undertaker, HHH and Hulk Hogan. But Lesnar beat the Rock with authority and established his name among the WWE bigwigs.
On the other hand, Bryan’s career also started in a similar way. Bryan won his first WWE title against John Cena, the face of the company for the last 12 years. Bryan won the title from Cena at the SummerSlam PPV in 2013. Cena defeated Rock in WM 29 earlier that year. The same way as Lesnar did, Bryan won the match with ease over a great champion.
SummerSlam has given both these superstars a great start to their careers and their first WWE titles. They also won over great champions at that time. This shows that the creative team has always believed in the potential of these Superstars and given them what they deserved.
WM 30:
The defining moment in Brock Lesnar’s career was the WM 30 match against the phenom. Brock Lesnar ended the most dominant streak in the history of sports entertainment. He ended the 21-0 streak of the phenom with dominance. This stunned the WWE universe to the core. The WWE team believed that Lesnar was bigger than the streak.
On the same night, Daniel Bryan defeated HHH in a singles match and won an opportunity to be a part of the main event. He went to win the WWE WHC defeating Batista and Randy Orton in a triple threat match. Defeating HHH, Randy and Batista on the same night was a phenomenal accomplishment.
Special Rewards and Wins:
Brock Lesnar won the ‘King of the Ring’ title in 2002, the first year in his WWE career. For a debutant in WWE such an accomplishment was great.
Daniel Bryan won the superstar of the year award in 2013.
The way the WWE team has dealt with these superstars over the years has been similar- the hatred towards the management, sudden upsurge and the rewards accomplished.
So, this bout between the superstars of the year 2013 and 2014 will be an interesting one and Daniel has the upper hand over Reigns to face Brock at WM 31 main event. So, are we going to witness The Beard vs The Beast?
