In the line of royalty, the heir is born into not only prestige, but also born into an endless amount of expectations that is bestowed upon them. The heir is counted on to carry on the family legacy that was created before them.
In the case of Charlotte, the bloodline prevailed.
WrestleMania saw the ending of the Divas era and the dawn of a new era born as the WWE Women’s Division. In what was a change of events last Sunday, the three former NXT superstars Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks squared off for the chance to cement their legacy and make history. However, the match saw Charlotte rain on the ladies’ parade as she closed the era out and began the revived Women’s Division era on top by making Lynch tap out to the Figure Eight.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Of course this didn’t come without controversy. Charlotte’s right hand man, the legendary Ric Flair, held back the match favorite Banks as Lynch tapped out of the submission hold. The next night on Raw saw Charlotte attempting to talk over the rowdy post-Mania crowd as her words resulted in all the women superstars walking out on her during the presentation of the of WWE Women’s Championship.
Charlotte has already arrived into this new era as one of the top heels in the Divas Division. Now with this transition, it is essential that Charlotte stays as the top heel. As in, she needs to be on the top of her game as a villain. With her victory at WrestleMania, she is now on a pedestal. She must continue this same path to her historic reign, now that the win has obviously gone to her head.
With Flair at her side, Charlotte has all the tools needed to succeed in this role. Flair is the dirtiest player in the game, after all. Charlotte more than fits the top heel role for the Women’s Division, so who better than her to fill that spot that has been previously held by talents such as Jacqueline and Trish Stratus in their respective eras?
If anything else, perhaps Charlotte’s win at WrestleMania was a good thing. Charlotte needs more than Flair’s help to fit into the role not only as the top of the food chain, but a villainous trailblazer for this new generation of women. For Charlotte, there is much room for improvement.
At WrestleMania and then this past Monday’s Raw saw her stepping up her mat game that was reminiscent of her NXT days. Furthermore, her display of arrogance and her conceited personality shines. Even though Charlotte has assistance with Flair, getting under the skin of her fellow counterparts only could further help her be the best bad girl she can be.
Her match with Natalya Monday night shows that Charlotte is already in the right direction in her new role, dismissing advice from Dr. Phil and reluing on Flair anyway for the disqualification. Both she and Natalya put on a great match with Charlotte executing offenses that were shades of Flair. Her heel moves were prominent factors, from her applying the Sharpshooter on Natalya to the whimpering of “Daddy” as Natalya closed in on her.
The two ladies already have history with their previous high-profile matches at NXT and at WWE Roadblock. Both ladies bring out the best in each other. Also given their rich family history, both Natalya and Charlotte have enough substance to carry on a feud into the summer should WWE go that route.
But where does that leave Banks and Lynch? With this new era, both ladies will be hungry for more as they were so close to victory at WrestleMania. There will be more opportunities down the road; however we don’t know the direction the two ladies will go as of now.
In the meantime, Charlotte will have her hands full come the next several weeks. She is in a position where everyone is now gunning for her. It is her and Daddy Flair against the world.
