CM Punk to dethrone Gunther after WWE legend returns at Survivor Series: WarGames 2024? Chances explored

CM Punk could be coming for Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Survivor Series after closing the chapter on his feud with Drew McIntyre. The Second City Saint won a grueling Hell in a Cell match against the Scottish Warrior at Bad Blood. He's reportedly set to miss Crown Jewel (November 2) but could return in time for Survivor Series (November 30).

The 45-year-old hinted at possible retirement on WWE RAW, but it feels like a red herring. Instead, he could challenge Gunther at Survivor Series and dethrone the Ring General courtesy of interference from Goldberg.

The World Heavyweight Champion is currently in the WCW icon's bad books. He provoked the former Universal Champion, leading to the 57-year-old jumping the barricade to confront him. He told the Austrian heavyweight, 'You're next.'

Surprisingly, Goldberg didn't appear in Gunther's successful title defense against Sami Zayn on WWE RAW. Many feel a retirement match is on the horizon, and that could be set up at Survivor Series.

Gunther won't defend his title at Crown Jewel as he'll collide with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. They'll square off for the inaugural Crown Jewel Championship. Punk could be next in line, though, and might dethrone him, thanks to Goldberg.

The Best in the World will likely be feuding with Seth Rollins at some stage. When Punk announced a leave of absence, the arch-rivals crossed paths on RAW this week.

That match could occur at WrestleMania 41, and having a title at stake would make it more interesting. They were supposed to square off at 'Mania earlier this year until Punk suffered a torn triceps injury at the Royal Rumble.

CM Punk has a glowing resume of matches throughout his career. He spoke proudly on the 'No-Contest Wrestling' podcast about facing some of the biggest names in the company's history.

The five-time world champion named John Cena, The Undertaker, and Brock Lesnar as three of his greatest opponents. That's some list with the trio arguably three of the best to compete in the squared circle.

Gunther could be joining that wrestling royalty should he battle with Punk. He's stolen the show on several occasions during his WWE run, including a barnstormer triple threat against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus at WrestleMania 39.

CM Punk proved at Bad Blood that he can still pull out a five-star match. The pair could put on a clinic that leaves fans in awe and further cements the Imperium leader as one of the best of his generation.
