On this past week’s Monday night many thought that CM Punk might turn up in his hometown for his fans. But the straight edge star did not return amid speculations to the contrary. Punk has been out of action since the Royal Rumble and after what happened on Monday, not many fans are expecting him to return anytime soon.
But the speculations would not end until either there is an official word from the WWE or if Punk speaks out. As optimist as the fans are, it would be interesting to look at the various factors behind CM Punk’s pending decision.
There are a few things that just don’t make sense right now. The big one being the WrestleMania 30 main-event. It has a heel champion going up against a heel challenger. The booking of that match and the current direction would lead you to believe that they would be inserting a babyface here. Could it be Daniel Bryan coming into the match as part of a stipulation of his Mania bout with Triple H?
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
It could but Bryan’s motivation appears to be focused on Triple H with very little mentions of the championship. There is nobody else but Punk who would make sense here? Another Baby face ,to be placed in the WWE main event match, of the level of Bryan and Punk is not there.
As with the Anti Authority figures which WWE currently have, there is only Daniel Bryan who keeps on fighting Triple H, Stephanie, Kane, Orton and sometimes Shield. And on Raw, he had his hands full against Batista. It would be sane, if he has some support on his side. And Punk was the one who cam up for the same, late last year. His return would balance the scales in the central WWE storyline.
The promo which Paul Heyman gave on Raw regarding CM Punk, did not in the least burry the second city saint. In the least it made him look good. The heat was put on the authority and partly on undertaker. But when was the last time a guy walked out of the WWE and wasn’t buried in some form or fashion? WWE did project him as a babyface which might be a part of some storyline.
Then there is a factor of surprise. Now most fans are not looking forward to his return. If WWE however brings up Punk to surprise the fans in the weeks leading to WrestleMania, it would be some great turn of events. When was the last time, WWE did that? And the spotlight would firmly be on WrestleMania. The road to WrestleMania would be made a lot more interesting with that return and a lot of pieces of the puzzle would fit in.
It would be a fascinating story if he did return. From that perspective we must hope it happens. With the WrestleMania top card still looking incomplete, Punk does have the spots which he could fill. The batista heel turn is definitely the most interesting thing which has happened and it leads to more questions than answers. Will Punk be the one which people cheer on April 7th? He may well be returning for that WrestleMania moment he deserves.
But then again, for some fans it would be hard to believe any rumor and news which leads them to believe about the possibility of a Punk return or his scheduled return date. It would be hard to imagine Punk returning on WWE before WrestleMania, given that there have been no talks between the two groups. Punk has not talked once about his sudden “leave”. And till we do not know about the reason behind his absence, it would be hard to comment whether he would well and truly return to the fold.
