CM Punk made his return to WWE last year at Survivor Series: WarGames, however, he has still not wrestled in a televised singles match. The only time he competed in a WWE ring since returning was as part of the Man's Royal Rumble match where he suffered a tricep injury because of Drew McIntyre. Punk was out of action till July when he announced that he was cleared to compete.
Despite being injured, Punk continued to make life miserable for his nemesis Drew McIntyre, costing him the World Championship, not once, not twice, but three times. The two men are finally set to compete at SummerSlam with Seth Rollins as The Special Guest Referee. Let's take a look at three directions WWE could take:
#3. CM Punk unable to compete in his return match
A former WWE writer just went after JBL for his comments HERE
RAW General Manager Adam Pearce announced that McIntyre and Punk can not touch each other ahead of their match at SummerSlam. However, the two have continuously fallen to new depths in order to spite one another. Considering this is Punk's return match which he has been looking forward to. The Scottish Warrior could strike and take it away from him.
Punk took away McIntyre's most anticipated moment as he cost him the World Title in front of his home crowd at Clash at the Castle: Scotland. To get back at Punk, McIntyre could brutally attack The Voice of the Voiceless even before their match starts and take him out. Not only taking away his shot at vengeance but also denying him the opportunity to make his return to action.
#2. Seth Rollins could replace CM Punk as Drew McIntyre's opponent
After The Scottish Psychopath takes out CM Punk, he could be thinking that he will take the night off. However, Adam Pearce could announce that McIntyre will still have to compete. Seth Rollins, who was originally set to officiate the match could step up as the replacement for The Second City Saint.
McIntyre and Rollins had a lengthy feud leading up to WrestleMania 40 where McIntyre finally dethroned Rollins as the World Champion. The Visionary could be looking for retribution. Despite disliking Punk as well, Rollins could establish himself as a top babyface by siding with justice.
#1. CM Punk could get squashed by Drew McIntyre
CM Punk has proven time and again that at 44, he is injury-prone. One way WWE can book the match is by having McIntyre squash The Voice of the Voiceless in a matter of minutes. Despite not competing, the feud between McIntyre and Punk has showcased how smart the veteran is as he constantly outsmarted McIntyre.
If Punk wins at SummerSlam, McIntyre's credibility will be severely affected. Instead, the company can choose to give fans a shock and awe moment by having The Scottish Warrior make quick work of The Best in the World. In the following weeks, Punk could begin his uphill climb after finally realizing that he might have bitten off more than he can chew.
