Cody Rhodes will find out this Friday on SmackDown who his first challenger will be for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Backlash. The winner of the AJ Styles vs LA Knight match will take on The American Nightmare.
Still, a former WWE champion could emerge as a future contender for Rhodes' title, and this is none other than Kevin Owens. KO was among the six superstars who competed for a chance to challenge the new champion.
However, AJ Styles and LA Knight survived their respective Triple-Threat matches and will fight to become the No.1 contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Kevin Owens should move on from the feud with Logan Paul
Charlotte Flair to return and wrestle a CURRENT CHAMPION?
Kevin Owens feuded with Logan Paul for several months, but after his loss at WrestleMania 40, it didn't make sense for him to continue chasing the United States Championship.
Thus, having him maintain a contending status and challenge Cody Rhodes for his title in one of the future Premium Live Events would make sense and help keep him on track for a future title run.
Kevin Owens could turn heel and attack Cody Rhodes
The eight-time WWE champion is acting as a babyface and has a great relationship with Cody Rhodes on screen and backstage. Still, if he is to challenge him, we should expect him to have a heel turn and attack The American Nightmare.
KO has shown he can perform at an elite level as a babyface and heel. Thus, a fresh heel turn could be a likely scenario for him if he is to challenge Cody Rhodes.
WWE could have KO turn heel, not Randy Orton
At the moment, neither Randy Orton nor Kevin Owens is part of the championship picture. Still, they are expected to have a title shot soon, with both becoming heels since Rhodes is considered the top babyface in the company.
Many fans were expecting The Viper to turn heel soon, but it is more likely that this will happen with KO instead. Orton could remain a babyface to help the reigning champion with the newest version of The Bloodline (with Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga), as both have unfinished business with Sikoa.
