The original Starrcade was produced as an NWA show and was the biggest event of the year for the promotion, much like WWE's WrestleMania. In 1988, Turner Broadcasting bought Jim Crockett Promotions, and Starrcade turned into a WCW event. The final Starrcade was held in 2000, with WCW being bought by Vince McMahon soon after.
