Cody Rhodes locked horns with AJ Styles in an "I Quit" Match at Clash at the Castle: Scotland. Both the superstars put their everything on the line, in what was probably the match of the night. While the match kept going back and forth, The American Nightmare ultimately prevailed over his rival after a gruelling contest.
Following another successful title defence, fans are eager to know what is next for Cody Rhodes. To feed into the curiosity, here are three potential directions for The American Nightmare after his recent win:
#3. Cody Rhodes turns heel
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Cody Rhodes revealed in an earlier interview that he would be interested in a heel turn. The company may have planted the seeds of the same at Clash at the Castle 2024.
During the closing moments of his match against AJ Styles, Rhodes threatened to hit AJ with the steel stairs. This led to Styles quitting out of fear. However, despite The Phenomenal One yielding, Cody went on to hit Styles with the steel stairs.
Given his actions in the ring, speculations have it that Rhodes could embrace the dark side in the coming days.
#2. The American Nightmare locks horns with Solo Sikoa after his win at Clash at the Castle
Cody Rhodes was attacked by the Solo Sikoa-led Bloodline after his win on Saturday. This led to Randy Orton and Kevin Owens showing up to make the save.
Given how things unfolded, it seems we are headed towards a potential one-on-one clash between The Enforcer and The American Nightmare. The creative team could have Solo challenge Rhodes for his title on the upcoming episode of WWE SmackDown.
However, it can be argued that Solo vs. Cody Rhodes isn't that big of a clash. Hence, WWE may have a massive swerve up it's sleeves. More on this in the next point.
#1. Roman Reigns returns to replace Rhodes as the face of WWE
While it has been widely speculated that The Tribal Chief could return as a babyface to clash with Solo, the company could delay the inevitable feud between The Bloodline members by having Roman go after Rhodes first.
Solo revealed earlier that he has been in contact with Roman Reigns. It could be that The Enforcer acted on The Head of the Table's orders and attacked Cody on Saturday. The Bloodline could continue targetting Cody in the coming days, only for Roman to return and reclaim his throne.
The Tribal Chief could return and dethrone The American Nightmare with the help of The Bloodline, replacing him as the poster boy of WWE. Following that, he could start his inevitable feud with Solo Sikoa.
