Cody Rhodes defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event 2024, which aired from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The American Nightmare managed to retain his title after a harrowing battle in the main event.

However, the event ended in chaos after Kevin Owens took out Cody Rhodes with a Package Piledriver, leaving him motionless in the middle of the ring. Following the brutal assault, medical personnel rushed out and took Rhodes out on a stretcher under supervision.

Kevin Owens took advantage of the situation, stealing the Winged Eagle Championship that Rhodes brought back, especially for the iconic event, and walked out of the arena, where he also had a brief altercation with WWE CCO Triple H. Recently, the official X/Twitter account of the Stamford-based promotion provided a health update on Cody Rhodes, revealing he was diagnosed with axial compression of the cervical spine and a cervical strain with spasm.

It appears Cody Rhodes will be out for a while due to injuries he sustained after Owens' attack. In his absence, The Rock could misuse his power as a Board Member of TKO Group Holdings and may strip the Undisputed WWE Championship from The American Nightmare, allowing Kevin Owens to carry the Winged Eagle Title and declare him the new titleholder of the promotion.

This shocking twist could also help to rebuild the rivalry between Rhodes and The Rock, potentially leading to a WrestleMania 41 showdown between the two next year.

Is Cody Rhodes actually injured?

Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens have been feuding for months. The primary reason behind their animosity is that The Prizefighter felt betrayed when Rhodes decided to help Roman Reigns at Bad Blood 2024, knowing what Reigns did to Owens in the past.

Following The American Nightmare being taken out under medical surveillance, fans have been wondering whether Cody is truly injured and if the whole angle was designed to write him off television temporarily. Although there is no official report on Rhodes' condition, other than updates on social media by WWE, it seems likely that his injury is part of the storyline.

It appears Rhodes may return soon, and the Stamford-based promotion could book a match between Kevin Owens and The American Nightmare for either the RAW premiere on Netflix or Royal Rumble 2025.
