WrestleMania 39
Cody Rhodes won the Men’s Royal Rumble 2023 and earned a ticket to WrestleMania. This match was highly anticipated, with Cody coming off a strong storyline built around his quest to "finish the story" of his family's legacy. The match itself was a classic confrontation between Reigns' brute strength and cunning tactics against Cody's agility and determination. Reigns ultimately retained his title after a hard-fought battle, albeit due to a little help from The Bloodline.
WrestleMania XL Night One
Cody Rhodes once again won the Men’s Royal Rumble in 2024 and vowed to finish the story once and for all. Before he could get his hands on Reigns, Rhodes teamed up with Seth Rollins to take on The Rock and Reigns at WrestleMania XL Night One. It was a great tag team match which had a surprise ending. Not only did Rhodes lose the match, it was he who got pinned. Consequent to this loss, their match at Night Two was made into a Bloodline Rules match.
WrestleMania XL Night Two
The arena was electric when Rhodes and Reigns entered the Night Two to settle their score at last. The match was filled with external interferences with names such as Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, John Cena, The Rock, Seth Rollins, and even The Undertaker coming out to aid either Reigns or Rhodes. At last, Rhodes hit the Tribal Chief with the finishing move to finish the story.
Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns History
When Roman Reigns made his WWE debut, Cody Rhodes was in a tag team with his half-brother Goldust. Their first major confrontation was at Battleground 2013 where Rhodes and Goldust defeated the tag team champions Reigns and Seth Rollins in a non-title match. Just a few days later, they would defeat The Shield again to become the new tag champions, and then again at Hell in a Cell 2013 to defend the title in a triple threat tag team match also involving The Usos.
Over the next few years, the feud between Rhodes and Reigns toned down and they only met in multi-men matches like Survivor Series and Royal Rumble. The American Nightmare eventually left WWE before coming back in 2022, and that was when tensions started to escalate between the two superstars. Rhodes won the 2023 Royal Rumble match and then faced Roman at WrestleMania 39 in a match filled with emotional stakes.
However, due to external interference, he failed to capture the title. Nonetheless, Rhodes rose again and won the Royal Rumble match again next year. He then faced Roman Reigns in the main event of both nights of WrestleMania, first in a tag team match and then for the title. While he lost the tag team match to Reigns and Rock, The American Nightmare managed to defeat The Tribal Chief at Night Two and ended his title run at 1,316 days.
