When WWE brought in Cain Velasquez, he was built like the man who would finally bring an end to the myth of Brock Lesnar - much like he did in UFC. However, that is far from what happened at Crown Jewel as Velasquez failed to last even 5 minutes in the ring with the Beast Incarnate.
While it was evident from the get-go that the former UFC Champion was not ready for a WWE match, the company still decided to pull the trigger and have him face his long-time rival and the WWE Champion in his very first match.

Many fans felt that Lesnar's complete domination over Velasquez in his debut match will be looked like a burial and it would be difficult for Velasquez to get back up from this defeat. However, the company made the right call in this case, as having a longer match would not only show Velasquez's in-ring weakness which would have further hampered his credibility.
WWE has also set-up a future rubber match between the two as Velasquez holds a victory against Lesnar in UFC, and Lesnar now holds a win over Velasquez in WWE.
