#4 To avoid another massive fan backlash
The Internet Wrestling Community has always been very vocal about their displeasure of certain booking decisions, and the ending of the Hell in a Cell main event falls under the same category.
The Universal Championship was set to be defended inside the dreaded Cell earlier this month and with everyone expecting The Fiend to walk out with the title, WWE decided to throw in a major surprise by bizarrely ending the match with a referee stoppage. The decision resulted in a massive backlash from the WWE Universe and even one of their favorite wrestlers, Rollins, faced a ton of heat from the fans.
By booking another match between the two at Crown Jewel, WWE had the responsibility to ensure a better result this time, and so they did by putting the title on The Fiend. Does it end all their problems? Of course not. How do you explain both the major world title being on the same brand? Will it be wise to have a major Superstar trade so soon after the draft? The questions are many.
But those would be much easier for the company to handle than facing another massive fan backlash, had they let The Fiend lose at Crown Jewel. It was a safe play to keep everyone happy and invested in the programming.
