Damian Priest is set to have another major World Heavyweight Championship match soon at WWE Survivor Series. Interestingly, it looks like he has a chance to win the gold the same way he lost it several months ago.
The Archer of Infamy lost the World Heavyweight Championship against Gunther at SummerSlam 2024 after being betrayed by Finn Balor. Priest defeated his former stablemate at Bad Blood and is back on a quest to reclaim the gold he lost. This week on WWE RAW, a title match with Gunther was confirmed for Survivor Series. Interestingly, a possible betrayal from Ludwig Kaiser could be the key for Priest to win back the title.
During Gunther and Damian's confrontation on Monday Night RAW this week, Ludwig also got involved to defend his partner's honor from Priest's words. Instead of being grateful, The Ring General got mad at Kaiser's presence then covered his mic while he was talking and got into an argument with him. This was followed by the challenger attacking Ludwig while the champion looked worried.
Due to the disrespect Ludwig experienced from Gunther, he may betray his partner during his upcoming title match. Kaiser may feel like The Ring General's confidence is based on the championship he holds, and losing it will take a major toll on him.
Ludwig may feel like the best way to take back his independence is by taking away the power of the World Heavyweight Champion.
Why wasn't wrestling veteran happy with Damian Priest and Gunther's WWE RAW segment this week?
Damian Priest and Gunther's segment this week on Monday Night RAW showcased a different side for both men. It elevated Priest's status as a challenger while showing the champion's vulnerability. However, Vince Russo wasn't a big fan.
While on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW podcast, the wrestling veteran shared that WWE didn't capitalize on putting heat on Gunther by attacking the babyface. Vince Russo added that he thinks the company was no longer building top heels, which results in the stars not getting over with the fans.
"Again man, you know, you got Gunther out there twice tonight. You got two opportunities to put heat on the heel and you don't put heat on the heel either time. I don't understand how anybody gets over with no heat on the heels. Everything's gotta start with heat on the heels,"
It will be interesting to see what will happen between Damian Priest and Gunther at Survivor Series.
