WWE Superstar Damian Priest came face-to-face with his challenger for SummerSlam, Gunther, during the latest episode of Monday Night RAW.
After a heated confrontation last week, Gunther reiterated his disdain for Priest, calling the entire Judgment Day "street trash." A charged-up Priest made his way to the ring, and the two men engaged in a huge brawl. Interestingly, this confrontation suggests that Priest may very well retain his World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam to extend his title reign.
Over the past two weeks, Damian Priest has firmly established himself as a babyface, receiving loud reactions from the WWE Universe. Fans are eager to see Priest beat The Ring General. Although Gunther was initially the favorite to walk out of SummerSlam as the new champion, WWE might want to capitalize on The Archer of Infamy's current momentum.
If Priest wins at the Biggest Party of the Summer, it would not only bring more credibility to his title reign but also set the stage for a rematch at Bash at Berlin. There, Gunther could get his win back and become the new champion in front of his fans in Germany.
WWE personality predicts Gunther will reign supreme at SummerSlam
Damian Priest is arguably set to have his toughest title defense against Gunther at SummerSlam since winning the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 40.
On his Cheap Heat podcast, WWE personality Peter Rosenberg recently predicted that The Ring General is going to win his match against Priest. He mentioned that winning the 2024 King of the Ring was only a stepping stone for Gunther before eventually becoming the World Champion.
"I go back to what my original point was. It's bad news for Damian Priest because Gunther is going to win that match. Winning King of the Ring was not the top of the mountain for Gunther at this time," Rosenberg said. [From 46:43 to 46:56]
