CM Punk will settle his rivalry with Drew McIntyre once and for all at Bad Blood on October 5. They will collide in a Hell in a Cell Match, which will likely be the main event of the premium live event.
The Best in the World and the Scottish Warrior have gone after one another for months, but they are now preparing for their next storyline. And this storyline could be on NXT. CM Punk showed up last week and announced that he will be the Special Guest Referee in the NXT Championship Match between Ethan Page and Trick Williams on October 1.
It was a surprising move from the iconic star, but it could hint at his next storyline, which would be a title match against Ethan Page. The reigning NXT champion took to social media and mocked the Best in the World last week, taking a shot at the Best in the World. In addition, Punk has never become an NXT Champion before, so it would be a great accomplishment should he eventually win the title.
It will also allow Punk to find a new storyline before shifting his attention to Seth Rollins. The two megastars are set for a blockbuster feud going forward, but The Visionary is currently out to recover from injuries.
Trick Williams 'super excited' about CM Punk being Special Guest Referee for title match vs Ethan Page
Trick Williams will look to re-claim the NXT Championship when he takes on Ethan Page.
During an appearance on The Ringer Wrestling Worldwide, the former champion shared his excitement about CM Punk's arrival at NXT and involvement in the title match.
"CM Punk has been great to us here at NXT. He has found a way to be able to be helpful to us all. Not just me, but all of us. We sit down, and we take the knowledge, we learn from CM Punk. So the fact that he’s special guest referee when we go to Chicago, October 1, it’s huge for us. I’m super excited about it. I know he’s gonna call it down the middle. I gotta do my job still," Trick Williams said. [H/T WrestleZone]
That said, the premiere of NXT on CW next week could shed more light on whether Punk will continue to appear on the brand. And if any controversy happens, it could set the stage for a title match against Ethan Page.
