Will Divas champion Paige become another lost cause in the WWE?

I don’t know if it is the sign from above or just plain bad luck but if reports of AJ Lee’s pregnancy come out to be true, then the Divas division is going to face a major setback. But like any other event in the WWE, that too shall pass and the show will go on. Before AJ Lee not many divas have been consistently put in the spotlight or been given the opportunity to be involved in some major storylines. Her presence made Paige’s arrival to the main roster much more exciting. So it was a bit of a disappointment that Lee decided to take some time off.

And ever since she went on a hiatus, Paige has been having many pointless matches which initially seemed to be serving their point i.e. proving and improving Paige’s toughness in the ring and her gimmick, but it has been two months and all this is still going on. The silver lining to this is that Paige is getting some major screen time which many divas don’t and which many divas champions don’t. But is this all going to fade away? Is Paige going to be another casualty? If that happens, then it is a downright tragedy and that would seriously mean that there is something wrong with the WWE.

AJ Lee and Paige’s feud would certainly be interesting, if it happens. They look like they could have a good in ring chemistry and given that they are the two of the best trained wrestlers WWE has, the matches would certainly be better than the best the division has had to offer. And there is also the factor of gimmicks. AJ Lee has been attributed with the gimmick of being what ‘normal’ people would consider ‘crazy’. Paige thus far has no such characteristics. She is still taking her first steps it seems. Many think that the WWE is trying to give her the underdog aura. Or maybe the WWE is trying to showcase the kind of growth Paige’s character is having now that she has been thrust into the main picture of the divas division.

While she was definitely made to look naïve, meek and timid in her debut on Raw, it would seem like they are trying to show that Paige is growing up with each of her match. She is learning more and more about how deal with a particular kind of situation. But the truth of the matter is that she is not made to deal with many situations. She is made to deal with a lot of pointless matches. If the matches form any story it is that of her characteristic of adaptability. Other than that, it has done nothing much. WWE has to make up their mind about when get Paige involved in an actual storyline. They’re just making their creative workload seem easier by having Paige go through another match with another diva from the locker room.

And that’s when Charlotte comes to mind. As reported, she has been featured in some house shows. That means that she might be coming to the main roster soon. Is she then Plan B if AJ does not ever come back? Maybe, and that is good news. No diva has shown as much of an improvement on NXT as Charlotte. She became NXT’s Trish Stratus. She is the current champion and it also helps that she’s Ric Flair’s daughter. She can carry on some of father’s gimmick in her gimmick and that will get her many followers. Also it will be exciting to see Paige face the improved Charlotte. They’ll definitely have great in ring chemistry and the storyline’s should get interesting if Paige is to reach a level of badassery and if Charlotte reaches that level of flamboyance and arrogance that her father so effortlessly carried.

The Divas Division still has a chance. So it seems.
