Unfortunately, I witnessed something horrific the other day. No, it wasn’t a Scott Steiner promo or Kevin Nash tearing his quad while walking. I had the misfortune of seeing an episode of Total Divas, the all too familiar “This is real but everything is scripted” reality show involving some of the divas from the WWE. While the best part of it was watching Natalya getting some air time (Hey, we need to be happy with the small things), the atrocious part was the rest of the crew.
Although I understand why WWE hired two models, I can’t understand why they hired models who couldn’t act their way out of a paper bag. It’s as if the scouts were blindfolded and were asked to pick two women out of a model pool and they came up with Eva Marie and Jojo. And the worst part is, they weren’t the atrocious part of the show.
The Bella twins are the uncrowned queens of the WWE, with Nikki dating John Cena and Brie dating Daniel Bryan. As ironical as it is, they are the number one and two faces in the company (although Cena has been sidelined for now), which would make Nikki and Brie the most powerful women in the WWE. While I was trying to watch the show and finding the inner chi to not blow my head off, the Bellas made it all the more difficult.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
I’ve never been a fan of the Bellas, and shoving them down our throats won’t do the WWE any favours. With rumours swirling around that Brie will win the Divas title from AJ at the Night of Champions PPV, things are about to get a lot messier in the WWE.
This brings us to my question: Does WWE really need the Bellas? I understand that John Cena and Daniel Bryan are constantly on the road and they need company (a.k.a girlfriends) who can be with them, but there are tons of other superstars who leave their family and friends behind to entertain the WWE Universe.
If WWE’s only reason (and I can’t find any other) to hire the Bellas is to keep Cena and Bryan company, then that might just be the biggest mistake WWE can do. Although we hear a lot about the talent cuts and budgets, we all know that WWE is financially stable. But spending millions on two untalented models is the last thing the fans would want from the global juggernaut.
My displeasure about the Bellas isn’t without a reason. I fail to understand how the Bellas can be an addition to the WWE. Other than yelling, screaming and acting horribly, there is nothing the Bellas bring to the table. I would have preferred “Yelly Yelly” Kelly over the Bellas if push came to shove. The Bellas might just be the most untalented divas in the WWE at the moment, although Eva gives them a close competition in that regard.
Bellas have zero mic skills, and can outdo each other in the ring to see just who is more abysmal as a performer. Their attempt at trash talking would put a third grade bully to shame, much less “entertain” the audience. If WWE only wanted some more divas for the cast, they could’ve replaced them with Santino and Vickie Guerrero! In all seriousness though, the Bellas can’t perform in the ring, and are excruciatingly painful to hear on the mic. The best example would be the Bellas yelling while AJ cut her promo couple of weeks ago. Didn’t the officials give them any cue when to keep quiet? I guess not!
The fact of the matter is, there are many others who deserve the air time that is being wasted on the Bella twins. Divas like Paige, who’re outstanding in the ring and actually knows what psychology is, are waiting in the wings to get their major break. But with the Bellas taking most of the air time intended for the divas, I don’t see talented women getting a chance any time soon. How many times should we watch Brie trying to scramble in the ring like a headless chicken, not knowing what to do next? There comes a point when the management has to hear what the fans want, and the Bellas aren’t what the fans want, or what the company needs.
In the end, WWE will keep the twins employed, and the sad part is, they will get more TV time going forward. Brie will win the Divas Championship come Night of Champions PPV from AJ Lee, while Natalya will be sitting in the corner, being irrelevant like she has done for the past five years. I would be interested to know how the twins have been of any help to the WWE, but the truth is, they’re present to give company to Cena and Bryan on the road and take up the air time during segments and the Total Divas show. I would love to hear Triple H telling the fans that they’re bad for business, but I guess that would make too much sense.
