The Rock battled John Cena in a 'Once in a Lifetime' match for the WWE Championship in the closing match of WrestleMania 28. After interfering in the main event of WrestleMania 27, the Rock challenged John Cena for a match next night for a match at next year's WrestleMania.

The Brahma Bull then captured the coveted WWE Championship on the Road to WrestleMania and locked horns with Cena in the main event. Though the Rock won the match at WrestleMania 28, the two superstars clashed once again next year in a title match which saw John Cena's hand being raised in the end.
