Rusev is one of the most genuine babyfaces in WWE locker room. His segment involving the "Bulgarian Mayor" is one of the biggest examples of this. After seeing Rusev's reception by the crowd, WWE always fickled between the decisions to turn Rusev face or heel. Rusev was a hot crowd favorite and moved tons of merch. His merch sale was one of the biggest reasons why WWE even added him to the WrestleMania triple threat match for the United States Championship.

However, at the same time, WWE wanted to follow the tradition of making every foreigner an anti-American heel. Now, since Aiden English turned on Rusev, the heel-face dynamics is clear here. WWE is finally ready to give Rusev his long overdue face run, albeit at the expense of Aiden.
