Extreme Rules 2015 - The Night of The Shield

The Shield disbanded almost a year ago but their influence, and the memory of it, still remains fresh. WWE hasn’t been able to recreate a three man tag team like they did with The Shield. Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were a great unit, a great team but each one of them stood out on their own. Each one of them could be differentiated from the other. That was the unique aspect of this team. In all three of them could you envision a main-event worthy career.

They parted ways after one of the most shocking moments transpired on RAW when Seth Rollins led chair shots after chair shots on his brothers. He moved ahead. He then betrayed Authority’s Randy Orton by curb stomping him on RAW. At the same time he was involved in the feud of the year against Dean Ambrose. At present, he stands as the reigning, defending WWE World Heavyweight Champion after having pinned Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns,on the other hand, was the one everyone thought and knew was always WWE’s guy. He still may be. WWE has struggled with making him look really strong and popular at the same time.

Dean Ambrose is the wild card. The odd one out. He’s had the most organic rise in the WWE. He became the most popular star of the past year. WWE failed to capitalise on it with meaningful feuds. And his PPV record after the Shield was 0- 8.

At Extreme Rules, all three brothers got their moment to shine.

Dean Ambrose

Ambrose’s match was one of the most unique bouts in recent times. He and Luke Harper went back and forth inside and outside the ring. They took each other out on the streets of Chicago, literally taking the stipulation of their match very seriously.

And in the end after all the spots, the craziness and the energy, Dean Ambrose got his frst PPV victory in front of an exhilerating hardcore audience. It was a moment that was great because of all his losses in the past and his unhinged popularity.

Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns was part of the best match of the night. That may not be so shocking. But Roman Reigns was part of the best match of the night in which his opponent was The Big Show. When was the last time Big Show was part of the best singles match of the night?

This was electric, this was awesome. Roman Reigns, despite facing the wrath of many fans, came out looking really, really strong. And even if you are his harshest detractor, you know, you can’t deny that this was a great match. It was the exact kind of match that made you happy that you chose to watch this PPV despite its poor build up. It was a pleasant surprise, much like this PPV.

Seth Rollins

In the end, Rollins walked out for the main event, with the tension between him and Kane looming large. The spoilt, double faced brat remains thankless for all the help Kane has provided – which includes Rollins winning each and every match against Dean Ambroe, including the Money In The Bank. He used an RKO to end his match after Kane, again, interfered.

Rollins joined his brothers, or rather former brothers, as one of the stars of the night. And this, ladies and gentleman, this right here – the success of The Shield – is what is best for business.
