WrestleMania 35 is in the history books now as we witnessed a great show from the Metlife Stadium at New Jersey on 7th April. With this, WWE programming will shift to the next phase as a new year starts for them. This means new storylines, new superstars, fresh feuds, and much more.
While fans are still going back and witnessing the amazing moments and matches of WrestleMania 35, let's focus on the next Big-4 PPV of WWE: SummerSlam 2019.
The Biggest Event of the Summer will be hosted by the great city of Toronto on 11th August this year. WWE would have started planning the matches and storylines for the PPV, and hence it's time to see an early prediction of what the SummerSlam 2019 card can look like.
In this article, I'll share my early prediction for the match card of SummerSlam 2019. Please note, some of these matches are made with the assumption of the respective superstars changing brands during the Superstar Shake-up this year. Do let us know your predictions for these matches in the comments section below.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#11 Singles Match: Bray Wyatt vs Braun Strowman
Braun Strowman debuted on the main roster in August 2015 as the newest member of the Wyatt Family. Being led by Bray Wyatt, the monster among men made a name for himself due to his massive size and enormous strength. He was scary, no doubt.
After being separated from the Wyatt Family during the 2016 draft, Strowman began his singles career and got over with the fans soon. Bray Wyatt, on the other hand, wasn't really having the time of his life by constantly losing meaningful rivalries.
With Bray supposed to return to WWE TV soon after a long hiatus, I'm expecting this match to happen sometime in the near future. And what better place to have it then at SummerSlam.
The former Wyatt Family member colliding with the leader of the group would be very interesting to see. If booked well, this feud could propel both of these superstars career to new heights, something that both of them are in need of.
Expect the rivalry to be very personal, as Wyatt would be shocked to see his former follower betray him and challenge him for a clash at SummerSlam. Also, will Rowan and Harper get involved in this? If yes, who's side will they be on.
Strowman leading both Rowan and Harper, forming Wyatt Family 2.0 and clashing against Bray Wyatt would be amazing storytelling and would also establish Strowman as a leader and a force to reckon with.
#10 Singles Match: Brock Lesnar vs Lars Sullivan
Lars Sullivan was scheduled to debut earlier this year and rumored to feud with the Champ, John Cena ending in a match at WrestleMania 35. As we all know, this didn't turn out to be the case. But Lars made his main roster debut on the RAW after WrestleMania and is looking set for a huge push.
Lars looks like an absolute beast and should be booked like one. In the first glance itself, there are striking similarities between him and the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar.
A program between the two at SummerSlam would be an amazing battle of strengths and would help in establishing Sullivan as the newest Beast in the town. The only problem here would be the build-up to the match, as you need a decent talker to match with Lesnar's manager, Paul Heyman. Giving Sullivan a manager of his own could be a way.
Who do you think will emerge victorious in this monstrous clash?
#9 Women's Tag Team Championship: Kairi Sane and Io Shirai(c) vs Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville vs Naomi and Carmella vs Nia Jax and Tamina
Kairi Sane and Io Shirai have been two superstars on NXT who have impressed many people. Their simple character and personality, combined with their amazing in-ring talent make every fan wonder when will these two become the Women's Tag Team Championship?
This past week on SmackDown, Paige announced that she will bring a new tag team to face IIconics at the draft. My prediction would be the Sky Pirates - Kairi Sane and Io Shirai.
I can see them dethroning the IIconics for the Women's Tag Team championship soon and then go on to have a good long run with the titles. At SummerSlam, they could defend their title in a multi-team match against Mandy Rose-Sonya Deville, Naomi-Carmella, and Nia Jax-Tamina.
#8 SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Hardy Boys(c) vs Andrade and Rey Mysterio
The Hardy Boyz defeated the Usos on the SmackDown after WrestleMania to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. With them being the champs, I believe The Usos will move to RAW at the draft.
Andrade and Rey Mysterio had a couple of amazing matches on SmackDown earlier this year that was applauded by both the fans and critiques. Looking at those two wrestle each other, I was wondering how amazing would they be as a Tag Team.
I believe WWE may take this path and make them a team. This could lead to the duo challenging the legendary team of Jeff and Matt Hardy for the SmackDown Tag Team championships at SummerSlam. A win on such a stage would establish them as a force to reckon with.
This would specifically be a great thing for the career of Andrade as he is yet to achieve any major success on the main roster.
#7 RAW Tag Team Championship: Aleister Black and Ricochet(c) vs The Sanity
Ricochet and Aleister Black are going through one of the better bookings of NXT call-ups on the main roster in quite some time. Due to their amazing matches and charisma, fans are already behind them heavily.
I'd expect them to soon become the RAW Tag Team Champions, and go on to have an amazing run with the belts, and help the belt get it's long lost glory and relevance back.
On the other hand, Sanity has had a disastrous main roster career so far, and they so badly deserve much more than that. Having them move to RAW and feud with Black and Ricochet for the RAW Tag Titles at SummerSlam would be a great idea.
Imagine Sanity as the RAW Tag Team Champs, and how much havoc they can cause on the show if booked properly!
#6 United States Championship: Drew McIntyre(c) vs AJ Styles
The mid-card titles usually change brands at the draft every year. This year also, I believe this will be the case. With Samoa Joe being the current United States Champion, expect him to move to RAW. In my prediction, Drew McIntyre will beat for the title sometime before SummerSlam, and go on to have a huge match for the US Championship.
Though he'll need a "Phenomenal" opponent to really make his match a top one. AJ Styles challenging for the title would be an amazing idea. Not only will this be a fresh pairing and a new feud, but the match quality would be really good.
After having a lackluster 2018, the United States Championship needs feuds like these and top superstars competing for it to become relevant again. AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre can surely play that role.
#5 Intercontinental Championship: Roman Reigns(c) vs Kevin Owens
As mentioned in the last slide, both the mid-card titles would be changing brands. The current Intercontinental Champion, Finn Balor should be moving to SmackDown where he'll have a decent run before dropping the belt to the Big Dog, Roman Reigns.
Finn Balor will have greater things at hand on SummerSlam, as you'll get to know in the later slides.
As far as Reigns is concerned, he'll hold on to the title till at least SummerSlam, where his opponent would be Kevin Owens. These two had a small rivalry back in 2017 for the Universal Championship. But this time the two would collide for the Intercontinental title.
We all know how good Kevin Owens is on the mic, and he himself can build any feud against anyone. But to complement him, the Big Dog needs to step up and improve his mic game to really make this a memorable feud.
The only question is, who will be the heel here? Do let me know your answer in the comments section.
#4 SmackDown Women's Championship: Sasha Banks(c) vs Asuka
I personally want Sasha Banks to move to SmackDown so that she could become a part of the championship picture on the brand.
Currently, both the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championship are held by the winner of the main event of WrestleMania 35, Becky Lynch. It'd be interesting to see how long does she hold on to both the titles. In my prediction, Becky will lose her SD Women's Championship to Sasha Banks sometime between now to SummerSlam.
With Sasha being the SmackDown Women's Champion, she could have a feud with many new superstars. One interesting program for her would be against Asuka. The Empress of Tomorrow has been sidelined from the top spot as of now, but that could change very soon.
Asuka challenging Banks for the SD Women's Title would be a great way to carry forward this women's revolution and giving opportunities to more Women superstars other than Charlotte, Becky, and Ronda.
#3 RAW Women's Championship: Becky Lynch(c) vs Ember Moon vs Lacey Evans vs Charlotte
At WrestleMania 35, Becky Lynch won both RAW and SmackDown Women's title in the main event. Now as mentioned in the last slide, my prediction is that she'll lose her SD Title to Sasha Banks. Adding to it, I believe this title loss would occur due to some interference or distraction from a challenger for her RAW Women's Title.
This challenger could be either Lacey Evans or Ember Moon. Following this, the feud will start between her and the challenger. Later, more women would start getting involved leading to a fatal-four way at SummerSlam between Becky, Ember Moon, Lacey Evans, and Charlotte.
The match should be an interesting one and should end with Becky defending her title and having a long reign with it. Becky deserves to be at the top of the division.
#2 Universal Championship: Seth Rollins(c) vs Daniel Bryan
Before we start, I believe Daniel Bryan will be moving to RAW after the draft scheduled next week. From being one of the most cheered babyfaces of all time to transforming into an amazing heel, Bryan has just proved to us how amazing he is.
With Seth Rollins winning the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35, expect him to have a good long run with the title around his waist, at least till SummerSlam. Naturally, he'll need a top competitor for his title at the PPV. Someone like Roman Reigns or Drew McIntyre can challenge him for the title. But I'll go with a different pick.
A heel Daniel Bryan going against a face Seth Rollins would be an amazing feud, that will lead to a great match between the two at SummerSlam. Both these superstars are two of the finest wrestlers in the world right now.
#1 WWE Championship: Kofi Kingston(c) vs 'The Demon King' Finn Balor
Now the assumption here is, Finn Balor will be drafted to SmackDown at the draft.
The year 2019 has been way better for Balor than what the previous one was. Something in me tells me that this would finally be the year when Balor will embrace his darker side and turn heel, hopefully reuniting the Balor Club with Anderson and Gallows.
But they'll need a proper faction to feud with. Who could that be? (Who? Who? Who?)
A heel Balor Club running havoc on SmackDown is just what WWE needs to keep the fans excited and interested in the product. This all could lead to them attacking Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods. With Kofi being the WWE Champion, Balor will have his eyes on the WWE Title, leading to him challenging Kofi for the title at SummerSlam.
At SummerSlam, The Demon King would go one on one with Kofi, and that should result in Balor becoming the new WWE Champion. An interesting twist here could be Big E turning on Kofi resulting in him losing the WWE Title. This would start a program between the two New Day members, while Balor could go on to rule the championship scene of SmackDown along with The Club.
