What’s the story?
Wrestling World News reports that Raw Superstar Finn Bálor suffered a concussion during his match with Jinder Mahal. The match between Mahal and Bálor took place on the latest episode of Monday Night Raw and if true, marks Bálor’s second injury on the main roster.
In case you didn’t know...
Bálor suffered a shoulder injury against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2016 when Rollins threw Bálor into the barricade via a running powerbomb. Bálor finished the match and went on to become the first Universal Champion, but relinquished the championship the next night on Raw and went away for surgery and recovery.
Bálor’s injuries would keep him out of action until March 2017 when he returned to in-ring competition on house shows competing against Triple H, Owens, and Samoa Joe.
Bálor wouldn’t return to television until the Raw after WrestleMania where he and Rollins teamed up to face Joe and Owens. His match with Mahal marked his first singles match since his return last week.
The heart of the matter
The following is a tweet from Pro Wrestling News that highlights the stiff shots that Balor received during his encounter with Mahal.
If these rumours are to be believed, then Mahal may have put an accidental halt to any of the WWE’s plans regarding Bálor in the weeks going forward.
What’s next?
If Bálor is injured, he likely won’t be appearing on television or wrestling any matches until he is cleared to compete again.
The WWE haven’t addressed the rumours yet and that may be a result of the concussion lawsuit that many former WWE employees are filing. The only way to know for sure will be to watch for Bálor to appear on Raw or SmackDown in the next few weeks.
Author’s take
If Mahal injured Bálor, then this incident could heavily increase the scrutiny he will be under. Though Mahal attributes his new physique to dieting and working out, many have claimed that he is currently in violation of the wellness policy and believe he is using steroids to improve his current look.
Mahal will have an uphill battle fighting these steroid allegations, but the biggest issue revolves around Bálor’s potential injury. There is no news on the severity of the concussion as of yet. There will be no way to confirm these allegations until the WWE or Bálor address the concussion rumour.
